We recently connected with Linda Nemec and have shared our conversation below.
Linda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Happened by Chance Horses Inc was formed in honor of my special needs son Chance and his love of horses. Raising a child with special needs has taught me a lot about second chances, patience and perseverance. Many of the horses we accept are critical. They are emaciated, injured and have been traumatized from their past experiences.
Linda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Happened by Chance Horses Inc., has a mission to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home horses that have been abused, neglected, seized from previous owners by law enforcement and saved from auction houses. We work closely with several national organizations to save and care for former race horses. We accept all breeds into our program, from the smallest miniature horses to large off the track thoroughbreds. Sadly, the majority of the horses we accept have little to no other chance of finding a home without our intervention. We rehab injuries, we rehab the horses that are emaciated, we recondition and train horses to trust humans and find placement into forever homes once the horse has fully rehabilitated.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
While in this rescue world, you have little to no choice but to remain resilient because of the cases we take in, our most recent show of resilience is with a horse named Maniac. He is a registered off the track thoroughbred. Magic Maniac is his registered name. He was found in a licensed to ship pen, emaciated, a horrific skin condition, little to no coat on his body, a hoof abcess that was blowing from the top AND the bottom, no tail hair and a dual impalement injury to the left side of his rectum that allowed you to see about 6-8″ inside his body cavity. 10 months of continual care, the hair has grown back, the abcess in his hoof has healed, his tail is growing back and the impalement wound has closed. Maniac now trusts humans again and had completed re-training and is now a great riding horse.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think what has helped most to build our reputation is the before and after stories of the horses that enter our care. We make posts on social media showing the horse and it’s journey from intake through rehabilitation and adoption or sanctuary.
