We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stevan David. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stevan below.
Stevan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew it was time to follow this path around the age of 12. I have always wanted to be a musician, I think truly what I needed was that like… kick! Something to just come and smack you in the face. And for me that was the first time at 12 I heard Nirvana’s “Nevermind” hearing that at such a young age for the first time is really what truly inspired me and made me say to myself “yeah, this is something I want to do” soon after I got my first guitar, began lessons, and eventually sort’ve found my own voice and began writing songs around 13 and that’s really what made me become what I am today.

Stevan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got it to the music scene sort’ve just like how everyone else did. I met a buddy in grade 9. He was a drummer. He ended up knowing a guitarist, I was a vocalist. So there is the 3 out of 4 major parts to a band. Nice thing is, they had music, I had lyrics. And the rest sorta fell into place from there.
I think what sets me apart from others is I don’t really care truly about how people think of me. I wear what I wear, I sing how I sing, and I accept all for who they are. I have always really tried to have my own sound and I really put everything I have into what I do. My stage performances, how I carry myself as an artist and human and most importantly my writing. It has always been very personal, but something that makes me stand out.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I’d say the most rewarding part of it all is getting to see how a crowd reacts to a set with my band.
It is so rewarding to come off a stage and have whatever venue you’re playing fired up. And really just seeing how they react to my songs. It’s just the best thing in the world when someone truly likes what you do and takes the time to come tell you positive feedback. To me, seeing people come together and enjoy overall is what is truly rewarding to me as an Artist.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have had to pivot many times.
When my last band and myself had partied ways that was a true “damn, what do I do now” kind of moment with going forward. It was sort’ve one of those things where you’ve been doing something that has worked for so long…. I knew what my roll was, I knew the style, I knew the band, I was just familiar with everything around me. And once it all stopped, everything around me changed it seemed. With my own life and identity as an artist.
I really had to step outside of my comfort zone when forming my new group. My last group was something I was very used to and really learn how to stand on my own and not be afraid of continuing on forward. I can truly say, that pivot in my life was a blessing as much as it seemed like a curse at the time. Right now in my life, I am so much more confident and happy with what I do musically. Trusting my heart and doing what I needed to do is something I am forever grateful for. Along with my old and new band mates as well, the way my old mates had to pivot and change and see how they’ve come out on the other side is truly inspiring to me. And watching my new group grow into something is just wicked. I highly encourage people to never turn away from change. It always ends up good on the other side.
