We were lucky to catch up with Lance Parchment recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lance, appreciate you joining us today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
The most unexpected problems that I face in my creative journey is honestly learning the correct way to do things so I can capitalize on my work rather than other people. I never thought anyone in higher place was looking at me enough to want to steal my work or ideas. I had a time where I released a song called stop calling which the name and beat of the song was stolen by madeintyo. There is a long story attached to that but to sum it up shortly I bought the beat lease from the producer he never sent the lease after 3 days passed I contacted him again nothing so I reversed the charge. So nice I reversed the charge the producer hit me up about so when do you want to purchase the beat. I had already posted the song and video the video started getting traction I even received an article from elevator magazine. Madeintyo was following me on twitter when I dropped the song and I had had got suspended for spamming yes I was a OG spammer we all make mistakes. During my suspension he took the song name and beat and dropped his version. The local underground was upset for me but nothing happened cause I didn’t own any rights. His team even went as far as copy right stroking my content covering what happened on TikTok. That was the first time it happened to me. It felt horrible because I couldn’t really do anything about it, but it also felt kinda good that I had something soo good that someone else in a higher position than me stole it. I looked at it like song wise it was in the right track just have to get the paperwork next time. Next was the songs “STuCK” , “LET IT R.I.P.”, and “REBIRTH” which I had copyrights for so I was able to get them back up on all platforms.

Lance, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
If you don’t know my story I got into hip hop music by making fun of raps like parody raps and free styling at the lunch table. I make rap music but the style can be considered more dark because I love minor keys and they sound spooky to most people my style is sorta grunge but what I talk about isn’t really anything to dark so sometimes I get like a misunderstood type vibe. Like I get written off because of my stylistic choices but if you really listen it’s nothing like what they are comparing me to. I hat sets me apart I would say is the way I use my doubles, and how I do everything it’s really all done by me so what you see is a perfect representation of myself. I’m most proud of the fact that I do it all myself and have full creative control.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn is that in hip hop and rap there is no bounds on what you can do. I used to be super lyrical like on some 90’s hip hop type vibe. And if it wasn’t that I thought people weren’t talented which is absolutely wrong. There is so much more that goes into it outside of being able to rhyme Intricately.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
They would struggle to understand how hard it is to actually create something that hasn’t been done before and that is as simple as I can put it. And everyone is only used to what they already have heard so when you are actually different at first you’ll be attacked for being different because we as people aren’t used to and are afraid of things we have no information on. Maybe that’s an instinct thing who knows.
