We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Evan Jaster a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Evan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
When I first started producing music it was for fun, how everyone starts out. Over time it evolved into something I was set on doing the rest of my life. Everything was telling me no and it’s a huge waste of time and energy but I’m happy I took the risk. “Making it” in any creative industry is very difficult, I haven’t even “made it” yet, but I am constantly working towards my dreams and aspirations. I believe if it truly brings you joy, take the risk.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Evan Jaster, I produce EDM music (specifically in the sub-genres of bass music) and am a performing DJ of the same vain, I also have Associate’s Degree in Sound Recording Technology from Schoolcraft University. I have been producing music in general since 2017, while starting to take it seriously around 2018-2019. I created the Jezter alias as a way to embrace the mistakes people have made with my last name, years it has been mistaken for Jester, why not accept it?
Have you ever had to pivot?
Two different times I have done a huge pivot in my music journey. In 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic, I decided to crown the name of Jezter, deleting everything on my page and restarting. I did this once more in 2022 or 2023 (I can’t remember exactly) and it changed my life. I always believe in hard resets if things aren’t going well, definitely give time for yourself to blossom before resetting if necessary.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The main goal for myself when starting to produce was to affect one person. If I can help one single individual pick themselves back up from a low point, I have succeeded as an artist. Nowadays, I’m building more of a fanbase to achieve this goal. I always want to help people the best I can in any form of media.
