We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kefas Brand a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kefas thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
As a public figure, I’ve encountered my fair share of misconceptions and mischaracterizations. One of the most common issues I face is people confusing my on-screen persona with my real-life personality. They assume that I’m identical to the characters I portray, which can lead to some pretty interesting – and sometimes frustrating – situations.
For instance, I’ve had people approach me and say things like, “You’re so serious and brooding in real life, just like your character!” And I’m like, “Uh, no, I’m actually a pretty laid-back and goofy guy!” But because they’ve only seen me in a particular role, they’ve formed this preconceived notion about who I am as a person.
Another challenge I’ve faced is being stereotyped or typecast based on my previous work. People might assume that I’m only capable of playing certain types of roles or that I’m limited to a specific genre. But the truth is, I’m a versatile actor who’s eager to take on new challenges and explore different characters and stories.
Lastly, I’ve also encountered situations where people have misinterpreted or taken out of context something I’ve said or done in an interview or on social media. It’s frustrating when people jump to conclusions or spread misinformation without taking the time to understand the full context.
Looking back on these experiences, I’ve learned a few valuable lessons. Firstly, it’s essential to be mindful of how I present myself in public and on social media, as people are often forming opinions based on limited information. Secondly, I’ve learned to be patient and understanding when people make assumptions or mischaracterize me – after all, it’s not always intentional!
Lastly, I’ve come to realize that it’s crucial to stay true to myself and not let the opinions of others define me. As an actor, I’m constantly playing different roles and exploring various characters, but at the end of the day, I’m still the same person with my own unique personality, values, and experiences.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello! My name is Rodney Kefas Namisi, and I’m a Ugandan actor and model. I’m thrilled to share my story with you and introduce you to my brand.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
As an Ugandan actor and model, my creative journey is driven by a passion to tell authentic African stories and showcase the beauty and diversity of our cultures. My goal is to use my platform to challenge stereotypes, break down barriers, and provide opportunities for underrepresented voices to be heard.
Growing up, I often found myself watching films and television shows that didn’t accurately represent my experiences or culture. I realized that there was a lack of diversity and representation in the media, and I knew that I wanted to be part of the solution.
Through my work, I aim to inspire and empower young Africans to take pride in their heritage and pursue their passions, regardless of the obstacles they may face. I believe that by sharing our stories and showcasing our talents, we can help to break down cultural and social barriers and promote greater understanding and empathy.
Ultimately, my mission is to leave a lasting legacy that inspires future generations of African artists and creatives. I hope to be remembered as a trailblazer who helped to pave the way for greater diversity and representation in the entertainment industry.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As an actor and model, I find that the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability to connect with people on a deeper level. There’s something truly special about being able to bring a character to life, to tell a story that resonates with audiences, and to evoke emotions that linger long after the curtain closes or the camera stops rolling.
I also love the process of creation itself – the thrill of taking on a new role, the challenge of exploring different characters and emotions, and the satisfaction of seeing a project come together. Whether I’m on set, in the studio, or rehearsing a new script, I feel most alive when I’m creating.
But what really gets me is the impact that my work can have on others. When someone approaches me and says that my performance inspired them, made them laugh, or helped them see things from a different perspective, it’s an incredible feeling. Knowing that my art can make a difference in someone’s life is the greatest reward I could ask for.
Lastly, as a Ugandan artist, I’m proud to be part of a community that’s rich in creativity, talent, and resilience. Being able to represent my country and culture on the global stage is an honor, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share our stories, traditions, and values with the world.
