Demetrius, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

At the age of three months, I lost my father to the ongoing epidemic of gun violence. This single selfish act changed my life forever, making me fatherless and my mother a single parent. Both my mother and I wanted a life with change and prosperity. I believe that one of the best ways to prosper is through education. With a dedication towards something better, I worked hard in school and out, allowing me to make honor roll yearly! My efforts afforded me a full ride to the college of my choice. It wasn’t until my Freshman year in college that I realized exactly how fortunate I had been. It was at this point that I decided to serve my community and give back to someone (through the D. Howard Scholarship Foundation) who was also hard-working, devoted to education, but a little less fortunate. I created the D. Howard Scholarship Foundation, LLC. as a means to help the child and remaining parent with the unforeseen college costs and supplies, as they are both just as much victims as the deceased.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

The D.Howard Scholarship Foundation works to help those beating the stereotypical image of the minority community. The D. Howard Scholarship provides an upcoming college freshman student with a financial accompaniment. The award is given to a student with good character, who has lost a father due to gun violence. The student must be dedicated to furthering their education and changing the stereotypical of the minority community, especially as it pertains to those who are left fatherless. The D.Howard Scholarship team members pride ourselves in helping young black men stay out of trouble and into education, as “knowledge is power.”

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?

The recipients of this scholarship continue to be engaged and active through social media. We make sure to check on past recipients throughout their college journey and keep them motivated to finish strong.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

When creating the D. Howard Scholarship Foundation, LLC. much of the initial capital consisted of donations that go directly to the recipient. We are currently growing and gaining grants in an effort to help multiple incoming college freshmen.
