We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mia Abdullah. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mia below.
Mia , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Being successful takes discipline and dedication. There has been many days where I wake up feeling discouraged or not wanting to take any orders but I always look at the bigger picture. I started my floral business because I have a passion for making creative things & I ultimately know that one day I want to help people become successful florist also. So if I’m feeling discouraged and don’t put the energy into my own business how can the next person trust me to grow and elevate there business.
Mia , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
When I first started my business I was 20 years old, two months away from being 21. Mentally I was struggling because I had just dealt with a major medical surgery & was in a rough relationship. Going through hard times I would always ask myself why no one ever bought me flowers. The sadness ultimately set a light bulb off in my head to start a floral business which I now call today Stunningstemzz. I sell custom floral bouquets ranging from all sizes, shapes, colors & etc. A client will come to me with a vision for a birthday, baby shower or any occasion and I will bring the vision to life for them. When it comes to my business I am most proud of the returning clientele I have created. It’s always important to have returning customers that I can build a relationship with and trust me. I am also proud of the ladies I have been able to help with there bouquet businesses. Having people reach out to me with questions and tips or just wanting guidance in general really warms my heart and lets me know I am doing something right.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by being consistent & letting the people who follow me get to know me on a personal aspect so I was not just viewed as a business owner. People want to know who they are giving there money too so I would make large counts of bouquets to post, step by step videos, voice over videos & etc. My advice to anyone else would just be to post post post and take advantage of all social media platforms because you never know whose screen you could pop up on.
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
I first launched my business April 19th with Mother’s Day being right around the corner. The odds were heavily stacked against me because I was so new to the floral business. My production times were high & I didn’t have any real experience doing more then 2 bouquets in a day. Due to my marketing I ended up selling out on my first Mother’s Day. I pulled an all nighter to complete all the orders. I was so under prepared but in the end I proved to myself that I can really have a successful business if I keep that same determination throughout my whole entrepreneurial journey.
