We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rj Dunavan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
RJ, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My family has owned a small restaurant located in Cayuga, Indiana, since 2004, called Angie’s Country Kitchen. For years my Dad and I have had the idea of doing a food trailer at some point in life. It wasn’t until late fall of 2023, that the perfect opportunity came up to buy a trailer and it was only an hour away from us. A little research and a quick trip, next thing you know, “Angie’s On Wheels” is coming to life. I knew once I found a trailer, it was only a matter of time before we’d be serving our delicious food that our community had grown to love over the last 20 years.
RJ, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well my mom & dad got into the food business back in 2004, when I was just 9 years old. So I’ve always been around food and people. I love the customer service aspect and just being able to talk to people. Having my parents guide me in life and business has definitely helped me get where I am today. At the end of the day, whether it’s at my parent’s restaurant or my food trailer, or in life, we will always do what’s right and help anyone we can.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I’d say social media is a big way to stay in touch. For us, Facebook is our way of staying in touch with our customers. It’s an easy way to share updates with what’s going on with our business and easy to engage with content.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Having my parents start a restaurant in 2004 and building a brand known for good high quality food and ice cream, is a huge blessing. In our first year of operating our food trailer, the more places you setup the better. Word travels fast, through social media, events, word of mouth. When you serve good food, treat people right, you can expect great things in return.
