We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andy J. Mosure. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andy J. below.
Hi Andy J., thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
In around 2013, I had created a piece of abstract art, entitled “Silohs.” Gorgeous hues of bright blues, greens, and a touch of brown in the background. I had listed it for sale on Facebook and a local friend, Brian, purchased that piece. I felt like it was confirmation that I should continue along the creative path.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’d say I’m a painter who loves to dabble in other things.
Painting is my first love. I got a start in July 2011, and it’s been my passion ever since.
I create works that arouse a thought or feeling in the viewer. I began painting with more abstract concepts, but my recent paintings are pushing more subjects into my work. If I feel like painting it, I’ll give it a try.
I’m proudest of my piece “Igor,” an enlarged macaw.
My favorite medium is acrylic paint, however mixed media is where I find myself at play. I find the time creating with something different keeps me fresh when I step back to acrylics.
In 2024, I joined the Marilyn Rose Center of Indianapolis. There I’ve found not only the weirdest group of people I’ve ever met, but also a group of creatives who’ve helped elevate my craft exponentially this year. I’m thrilled to get to grow with our group!
I live in Indianapolis with my husband and two chihuahuas. I enjoy a rich home life of cooking, coffee-craft, and tending to my rather large collection of tropical plants. During the day I work for a local hardware store, specializing in plants.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe artistry and/or creativity is a fundamental part of a happy life. At least it is for me.
Any project I take on starts with covering the big things, and then finely working out the details as I finish. Even when cleaning the house I find myself using the same approach.
I’ve found such a joy in the process carries over into the most mundane of tasks.
On a grander scale, I think local artists should be consulted when cities and neighborhoods take on projects. I believe a creative’s insights could lead to safer, cleaner, and more enjoyable streets for everyone.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Ah, the Valentine’s Day flood of 2016.
I had just walked up to my studio apartment from a barista shift. As I walked up to my door, it sounded as if someone had left water running. I opened the door to find water pouring from every joint in the gorgeously paneled ceiling, but the heft of it pouring directly down upon my desk. The radiator in the upstairs apartment had burst.
My collection of watercolor paintings, as well as paints had been washed out. I lost a handful of canvas paintings due to warping.
It took about a week for the place to dry out, and i was surprised at what was unaffected. Shockingly, all of my sketchbooks remained unharmed!
I remember a feeling of acute devastation. Looking back on it today, it was merely a hiccup! In a way I’ve faced that feeling of “what if I lose all my work?” Just knowing my creativity can’t be flooded out keeps me painting to this day.
