We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nicole Green a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Absolutely. Robert Hall & Associates is not your typical, cookie-cutter tax firm. For one, we offer a broader range of services than most tax firms. But beyond that, our client base sets us apart. We work with small and medium-sized business owners, entrepreneurs in newly developed industries, and individuals whose financial journeys have taken unexpected turns. For example, we help content creators who’ve gone from making $30,000 at a retail job to earning millions through platforms like TikTok and YouTube.
What truly differentiates us is our commitment to education. Our firm was founded by educators, and that philosophy still drives us today. We prioritize educating both our staff—so they can grow within the industry—and our clients, empowering them to make informed financial decisions.
We don’t just prepare tax returns; we provide strategic guidance. While many tax firms simply send over completed returns, we sit down with our clients to ensure they understand their financial picture. We also offer free consultations, often reviewing prior tax returns and helping clients determine whether their current accountant is serving them well. Sometimes, their tax professional is doing a great job—they just need better communication. Other times, we identify missed deductions and opportunities.
Our focus goes beyond lowering tax liability. We take a long-term approach, helping clients align their tax strategies with their five- and ten-year financial goals. Taxes aren’t just a one-year concern; they shape your financial future. Our role is to ensure that our clients aren’t just compliant with tax laws but also positioned for success.

Nicole, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My journey has been anything but traditional. I’ve traveled to all seven continents and visited over 50 countries—so in many ways, I’ve taken the road less traveled, both in life and in my career.
Before entering the tax industry, I had a thriving career in education. But instead of leaving that behind, I’ve carried it with me. Now, every day, I educate my clients and my team, helping them navigate the complexities of taxes. Learning never stops for me either—I’m constantly growing and evolving in this field.
What sets me apart is my ability to turn big ideas into actionable goals. Whether it’s a bold career shift or a new way to help clients, I don’t shy away from challenges. My goal is simple: to help people. Taxes can be overwhelming, but I’m here to make them manageable and to ensure my clients are set up for success. If there’s one thing I want people to know about me, it’s that I’m here to help.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Our new clients come primarily from two key sources. First, our active presence in the community. While we’re a tax firm, education is a huge part of what we do. We regularly host and attend events, participate in trade shows, webinars, and seminars, and sponsor various industry gatherings. This involvement allows us to connect with people beyond just advertising—it gives them a chance to meet us, understand our values, and see that we genuinely care about providing top-tier tax services.
Second, referrals. The trust we’ve built with our clients and professional network results in a steady stream of word-of-mouth recommendations. Referrals are a testament to the quality of service we provide—when people value our work, they naturally share it with others. At Robert Hall & Associates, we take the time to ensure our clients receive the best possible tax strategies, giving them the confidence to focus on growing their businesses and financial success.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In the tax industry, pivoting isn’t a one-time event—it’s a constant necessity. Taxes are a reflection of people’s lives, and as life changes, so do tax strategies. Whether it’s economic shifts, new regulations, or industry trends, we have to stay ahead to provide the best guidance for our clients.
One major pivot was during COVID-19. With government relief programs like PPP loans and ERC credits, we had to quickly become experts on qualifications and compliance for these new programs to ensure our clients weren’t at risk of clawbacks years later. More recently, wildfires in Southern California have had a significant financial impact on homeowners and businesses. We’ve had to guide clients through insurance claims, deductions, and tax implications, ensuring they make informed decisions rather than rushed, costly mistakes.
Beyond external events, the landscape of our clientele has evolved. In the early 2000s, real estate professionals dominated the market. Today, we see an increasing number of content creators and digital entrepreneurs—groups that many traditional accountants hesitate to serve. As tax professionals, it’s our responsibility to adapt, stay informed on emerging tax strategies, and provide tailored advice.
At Robert Hall & Associates, pivoting isn’t just about keeping up—it’s about leading the way, ensuring our clients have access to the best tax solutions, no matter how the landscape changes.
