We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yakira Picart a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Yakira, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
The craziest thing that has happened to me in my business was when I first got cleaning insurance. I had finally reached a point where I could afford residential cleaning insurance, so I signed up on a Tuesday. Two days later, I had a client—and I ended up needing to use my insurance already!
I was deep cleaning a refrigerator and had little space to work with. I carefully placed some glass refrigerator parts on top of a washer, thinking it would be fine. A few minutes later, one of the pieces fell and shattered. My heart dropped. The client wasn’t around, so I took a few deep breaths before breaking the news.
When I told him, he had to sit down and collect himself—I felt awful. All I wanted to do was fix it. I immediately called a repairman, searched for replacement parts, and luckily found them. It took a month for the parts to arrive, but when they did, I was able to replace everything and cover the costs.
Looking back, I see this story two ways. On one hand, I never want a client to experience loss because of something I did—trust is everything in my business. On the other hand, I was grateful I had protected myself and my business. Maybe it was my intuition pushing me to get insurance just in time.
That’s the wildest thing that’s happened so far in my business—so far—because in this industry, you never know what’s next!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
In 2021, I quit my 8-to-5 job where I felt unfulfilled. Around that time, my sister invited me to travel with her for work. I had no plan and no savings, but I took the risk anyway! Experiencing that kind of freedom showed me that I could create my own path. It’s been four years since I left the blue-collar world, and I can’t imagine going back. I’ve learned how to start businesses and embrace the unknown.
Moving into my first apartment led me to an experience that would later inspire my business. I faced a month-long bed bug battle from a neighboring unit—sleepless nights, constant cleaning, trying every product I could find, and even trashing my box spring. I slept on an air mattress until I could afford a new bed.
During that time, I started picking up cleaning gigs for a friend’s family, and something clicked. I realized how much cleaning impacts well-being. I didn’t want others to go through what I did—living in an unhealthy space because of someone else’s neglect. I wanted to help those who don’t have the time, energy, or physical ability to clean, not just for themselves but for the people around them.
Today, my focus is on solving procrastination and mental fog. I connect cleaning with clarity—helping customers clear their space to clear their mind. A messy home can contribute to stress, overwhelm, and even mental health struggles. That’s why Clean Routine Services exists: to help people declutter their minds by transforming their environment. We don’t just clean—we create clarity!

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Over the past few years, I’ve come across so many resources that have shaped my mindset about entrepreneurship. One of the biggest influences in my journey has been Alex and Leila Hormozi.
Alex is a marketing genius who ties in Stoic philosophy, which has completely transformed my thinking. Understanding patterns in the world and how everything connects has helped me make sense of the ups and downs in my business. His wife, Leila, is a true leader—she inspires me to make sound decisions based on my core values and to walk with my emotions instead of letting them hold me back.
I apply these lessons daily—especially on the tough days when I don’t feel like showing up or when I have no idea what I’m doing. Instead of letting doubt stop me, I take action to figure it out.
If you’re an entrepreneur, I highly recommend diving into their content. They don’t just talk about the struggles—they provide real solutions for navigating business in today’s world.
