Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ali Cure. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Ali thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I always knew I wanted to be in the aesthetic industry when I began my nursing career. Although, getting there wasn’t as easy or quick as I thought it would be. After I finished my BSN, I worked in the NICU at a children’s hospital and continued on to get my Masters degree. I was then offered a position before graduation to work in the children’s urgent care centers, and so began that journey. I was always dreaming of my aesthetic career and continued my education by taking courses and doing trainings in cosmetic procedures. I started my business as a side-gig, if you will. I was working full time as a nurse practitioner in the urgent care centers, while doing concierge services part time. Finally, during the first year of the pandemic, I made the decision to jump in and go full time with my business. Best decision I ever made. It was hard, very hard, and still is sometimes, but I will never look back. A couple things that I made sure were in order before I took the plunge were to have a good nest egg in the bank to help support myself and my family through the beginning, and having enough experience to be comfortable and confident to venture out on my own. Now I am my own boss. I can schedule myself according to the needs of my daughter and husband’s work schedule. I don’t have to ask anyone for time off. But with that comes huge responsibility, the stress of owning and running a business; and if you don’t have the dedication and motivation, then it will not be worth it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In general, you need to be resilient to be able to start a business. For most people, it is not entirely smooth in the beginning, and sometimes even past that. It’s kind of like a rollercoaster building a business and starting from scratch. There are lots of ups and downs and if you are not resilient enough to ride out the waves, then you probably will not make it.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Succeeding in this field is not only your training and experience, although it’s a very large part, but also having the passion and drive to do the best for your clients, is a huge part. If I didn’t see the confidence and happiness in my clients faces after a treatment or procedure, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do. This industry comes with a lot of stress and keeping up with new techniques, products, and devices, and if you don’t have the passion for what you do, you will find you will not be successful.
