Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Philip Layog. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Philip, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Hi! I’m Philip, and I am a registered nurse who worked bedside for 10 years. I worked in Med/Surg, Cardiovascular ICU, and in outpatient PACU. Just like most nurses, I was burnt out from working in the hospital and unhappy with the irregular working hours while feeling underappreciated and underpaid. Plus, I have two toddlers, and bedside nursing was keeping me physically and mentally drained every time I got home from work.
The defining moment in my professional career was when I landed my first remote nurse job. All the hardships of nursing disappeared, and I was finally able to better myself. I started exercising consistently during my lunch breaks. I did not have to waste time or gas from commuting in the crazy Orlando traffic. Most importantly, I am there every morning, getting my kids ready for daycare and every night for dinner and bedtime. I’m present for my kids every weekend and holiday and have not missed a single event, which is something bedside nursing takes away from families. I am currently working from home as a Utilization Management Nurse, and it has been the best career move as it has opened up many doors.
Since landing a remote nurse job, I decided to become a content creator on Instagram, @wfh.nurse.life, where I would educate, entertain, and inspire nurses about work-from-home nurse jobs and how to land them. As of today, I have over 30k followers after starting a year ago. I have helped hundreds of nurses land jobs while making some funny videos highlighting my life working from home. I also partnered with a friend, and we launched a website called NurseRemotely.com, where we connect employers with highly qualified nurses who are seeking remote positions. I have been a featured guest on a few podcasts as well, and I hope to start my own podcast one day, interviewing other work-from-home healthcare workers. Landing my first remote nurse job and becoming a content creator has also connected me with other like-minded individuals and creators, and I always believe that your network is your net worth.

Philip, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a husband and a father who works in a non-traditional, work-from-home, nurse job. There are hundreds of nurse influencers and content creators on social media, but there are very few remote nurses on Instagram. In starting a business, you have to identify a pain point and the solution. The burnout from bedside nursing is a huge pain point, and I saw remote nursing jobs as a solution as these jobs provide less stress, increased job satisfaction, and a better work-life balance. I took the opportunity to start creating influential content for a very specific niche on Instagram and created the brand WFH Nurse Life.
I created content and resources on how to land these work-from-home nurse jobs such as Telehealth, Case Management, Utilization Management, Clinical Documentation Specialist, Informatics, Clinical Research, HEDIS, and many more. I teach how, when, and where to apply for these amazing, less stressful jobs compared to bedside roles. I provide resources on a list of companies that have remote nurse jobs, Applicant Tracking System (ATS) Resumes, and interview questions and answers.
What sets me apart from others is that my products are affordable compared to hiring a coach, and many nurses with just bedside experience landed jobs with my help. I am always available to connect and answer questions. What also sets me apart is that I also post funny content regarding working from home as a nurse. I have several reels and memes that have reached one million views. I have been featured on a few podcasts and also spoke during a virtual summit called “Bedside 2 Business.” I will also be selling clothing and merch!
I am most proud of connecting many burnt-out nurses to their very first remote nurse job, so they don’t have to work in unsafe conditions at the hospital and now get to spend more time with their families. I am also most proud of starting a brand new job board specifically for remote nurse jobs called NurseRemotely.com. Our mission is to connect employers with highly qualified nursing professionals seeking remote opportunities. After one month from launching, we have over 15,000 active users with close to 300 daily active users. The other thing I am proud of is connecting with other nurse influencers who believe in what I am doing for the nursing community.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Since starting and gaining authority on social media, I have had several individuals reach out and pitch their ideas to me to help me grow my brand. I have had ghostwriters for email campaigns, resume writers, and other brands reach out to me.
Creating a niche job board called NurseRemotely.com was not my idea. In September 2023, Troy, an old friend from college, reached out to me when he noticed I was getting big on social media. Troy is a UX designer, who enjoys working on side gigs. We were in the same dance crew back in college where we performed and competed in several events. We met up again at a Starbucks over a decade after college, and he pitched his idea and business proposal to me. He knew we could create a unique job board that could compete with others by its functionality. Troy came up with the name of the website and created the landing page in a few days. We officially launched the website a couple days before Christmas in 2024. NurseRemotely continues to rapidly grow with new users searching for remote nurse jobs.
My brother-in-law, Martin, and his wife Bre want to be part of this brand as well. Martin is also a work-from-home nurse who works in telehealth. They are working on creating and selling merchandise. We have sweaters, shirts, mouse pads, hats, and more showcasing the Work From Home Nurse Life brand.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe multiple factors helped build my reputation in the work-from-home nursing world including my bedside experience as well as understanding how to search and apply for jobs. I was a bedside nurse for a decade at two major hospitals in Florida. I was a Cardiovascular ICU nurse which is one of the most prestigious specialties of nursing, and I was Critical Care certified. I have had multiple interviews for remote positions, and I have received multiple offers. Doing multiple interviews helped me familiarize what questions were going to be asked and how to answer them using the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method.
Over the past year, I have helped hundreds of nurses in getting started in landing remote jobs. I answer almost all the questions in the comment sections and in my inbox. I became familiar with the recurring questions, and I created content with the frequently asked questions. I have created affordable guides on how to create resumes and ace interviews which helped many nurses land remote jobs. I have nurses every week messaging me about their excitement in landing an interview and a new job. I showcase the success stories of myself and others, and my following continues to grow. Our NurseRemotely job board has hundreds of active daily users, and my reputation grew as I gained the support of many other nurse influencers.
I have become more than just a nurse. I took the leap to become a content creator who helps nurses escape the bedside for less stress, increased job satisfaction, and a better quality of life. Follow me on Instagram at @wfh.nurse.life!
