We were lucky to catch up with Janice Lott recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Janice, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story behind my mission began in childhood. I was always drawn to the art of dressing. As I stepped into the corporate world, I became even more aware of how clothing influenced the way people perceived and responded to me. The level of professionalism I embodied in my attire impacted my presentations, my confidence, and even the way I carried myself.
I naturally paid attention to what others wore in the office, and my friends jokingly called me the “fashion police.” But to me, it was more than just an observation it was a God-given gift. I’ve always appreciated creativity in dressing and appreciated that style isn’t just about clothes—it’s a form of self-expression, a source of confidence, and a way to step fully into one’s purpose.
Now, my passion is to help every woman I’m called to serve to experience a life-transforming moment through styling. I genuinely love seeing women thrive, whether in their personal lives or business ventures. There is something incredibly fulfilling about witnessing the joy they find when they invest in themselves, embrace their unique story, and step into their own power.
My ideal client is a woman with a big heart someone who genuinely cares for herself and others but may struggle with aligning her outward appearance with her inner essence. I’ve seen firsthand how the right outfit can shift a mindset, open new opportunities, and help someone feel more like themselves than ever before.
That’s why my approach is warm, supportive, and never intimidating. I want my clients to feel seen, heard, and understood knowing that they don’t have to change who they are to be stylish. Instead, I help them embrace their uniqueness and express it through a wardrobe that makes them feel happy, confident, and effortlessly put together.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
What I Do & How I Help My Clients
As a wardrobe stylist, my mission is to help women experience life-transforming moments through personal styling. I offer personalized styling services designed to help my clients feel confident, authentic, and effortlessly put together. Whether it’s through wardrobe edits, personal shopping, or styling sessions, I guide women in creating a wardrobe that reflects their essence and empowers them to show up as their best selves. Many women I work with are kind, big-hearted, and ambitious, yet they struggle with aligning their outward appearance with their inner confidence. They may feel stuck in outdated styles, overwhelmed by shopping, or unsure how to dress for their body and lifestyle. My role is to simplify the process, bringing clarity and joy to getting dressed every day.
What Sets Me Apart
What makes my approach different is my heart-centered, intuitive styling philosophy. I don’t believe in rigid fashion rules or forcing a specific look. Instead, I take the time to understand my clients by who they are, what they love, and how they want to feel. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where they feel seen, heard, and empowered. Styling isn’t about changing who you are; it’s about enhancing and celebrating your uniqueness. Whether my clients are stepping into a new career, launching a business, or simply wanting to feel more put together in their everyday lives, I help them cultivate a wardrobe that feels like home.
What I’m Most Proud Of
I’m most proud of the transformations I’ve witnessed. Seeing women light up with confidence, step boldly into their next chapter, and embrace their personal style with joy. I love hearing stories of how a thoughtfully curated wardrobe has given my clients newfound confidence, whether it’s acing a big presentation, feeling amazing on a date night, or simply waking up excited to get dressed.
What I Want You to Know
My styling services go beyond fashion, they are about empowerment, authenticity, and helping women feel their absolute best. If you’ve ever felt like your wardrobe doesn’t fully reflect who you are or where you’re going, I’d love to help you bridge that gap. No matter where you are on your style journey, know that you deserve to feel confident, radiant, and comfortable in your own skin.
Your story matters, and your style should reflect the beautiful, multifaceted woman you are. Let’s create a wardrobe that makes you feel like you—elevated, effortless, and unstoppable.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The Heart Behind the Investment: How I Funded My Styling Business
Starting this business wasn’t just about fashion, it was about helping people feel seen, confident, and truly themselves. When I set out to launch, I knew I needed some initial capital, but I also wanted to be intentional about how I gathered it. I started by assessing what I truly needed to get off the ground like a professional website, marketing materials, and a curated wardrobe selection. Rather than taking on big loans right away, I got creative.
Self-Funding with Purpose – I set aside personal savings from my corporate work, ensuring I could start debt-free while still making strategic investments.
Support from My Circle – My biggest believers friends, family, and even past colleagues cheered me on. To build my portfolio and social media presence, I offered free styling services to friends and family. I kept it simple purchasing an affordable Amazon ring light camera and hitting record while I styled them. These early moments not only gave me great content but also helped me refine my process and build confidence in my work.
Smart, Small Investments – Instead of splurging on everything at once, I focused on high-impact areas: a polished online presence, great client experiences, and continuing education in styling.
This journey has taught me that starting a business isn’t just about money, it’s about passion, resourcefulness, and staying true to your mission. I built my business with heart, and that’s exactly what I bring to every client I serve.

How did you build your audience on social media?
When I started my styling business, I knew social media would be a key way to reach my ideal clients but I also knew I wanted to show up authentically, not just for the sake of posting.
At first, I leaned into what I had: my friends and family. I offered free styling sessions and simply hit record using an affordable Amazon ring light camera. Those raw, behind-the-scenes moments became my first posts real people, real transformations, and real excitement.
Consistency Over Perfection – I didn’t wait until everything was “perfect.” I just started sharing quick styling tips, client wins, and even personal reflections on confidence and self-expression.
Engagement, Not Just Posting – Instead of just talking at my audience, I made it a conversation. I responded to comments, DMs, and engaged with others in my niche. This built a community, not just a follower count.
Showing Up Authentically – My audience resonated most with my posts when I was just myself. The polished, curated content had its place, but the videos of me genuinely helping someone feel amazing? Those were the ones that connected deeply.
Advice for Those Starting Out – Don’t overthink it. Start with what you have, be consistent, and focus on connection over perfection. Share what lights you up, and the right people will find you.
Growing my social media wasn’t about a magic formula it was about showing up, adding value, and staying true to my purpose. And that’s exactly how I continue to build my brand today.
