We recently connected with Fred Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Fred, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
You should never feel ashamed to ask your friends and family for support. In the end they are helping you grow and at times may receive free services in the end, this is not the case in every scenario. There’s a pretty viral post where someone ask the artist, “how come you’re not famous?” His response how come you didn’t share my stuff, that’s why I’m not famous.” I believe in supporting one another, we’ll support a huge artist who will never respond to us but forget about our friends and family who were on the journey from the start.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started out doing photography with friends, I honestly wasn’t happy with the results. I research my camera a bit more and realized it was excellent for video work. When it comes to clients I’ve solved, I’d say I’ve been able to help them find someone reliable and who is there for one thing to work. I’m most proud to have work with some top talent, people that I never thought I would be in the presence of.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’d say find your niche, I attended photomeets and was drawn in by the fire performers. Many fire performers have reached out to me due to the quality of my work and the aesthetic in my content. Find your niche, find what audience is attracted to your content
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Definitely shooting slow motion. People love seeing something so cinematic with fire and it draws you in. People nickname me the fire guy haha.
