Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chimere Murrill. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Chimere thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
The legacy I’m building is one that’s centered around empowerment, resilience, and possibility. I want to show people, especially those who look like me and come from similar backgrounds, that it’s possible to break through barriers, defy expectations, and build something meaningful with any opportunity presented. I’m not just working to grow my businesses—I’m truly working to create opportunities for others, to be a bridge for the next generation of leaders who might not have had the same advantages. My hope is that people will remember me as someone who helped turn dreams into reality, not just for myself, but for the community I care about. While the blueprint handed to me was to finish college and become successful up the corporate ladder, I want my legacy to show that you absolutely should dream big, step out on faith, re-write that blueprint, take risks, and watch your dreams unfold. I want to be known as a trailblazer who has shown that being a strong minority female in and a male dominated industry isn’t a limitation, but a rather a strength. Ultimately, I hope people say that I inspired them to believe in themselves, pushed them to be their best, and left a lasting impact on the world—not just in business, but in lifting up others for them to go and create the life they dream and deserve.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m someone who has been very fortunate enough to be able create a unique lane headquartered right here in Baltimore, MD at the Baltimore Peninsula. My journey is honestly one that blends my passion for boating and my strong business acumen as a servant leader. My story begins about 12 years ago when I was introduced to boating by my colleagues while I worked as a Department of Defense contractor. I fell in love with being out on the water instantly, but like most beginners, I quickly realized I had a lot to learn. I bought my first boat—a small, two-seat vessel with a sun pad. I was nervous, excited, and eager to learn more every time I touched the helm. Those emotions ignited a true inspirational fire within. I said to myself, “One day, I’ll merge my love for the water with a business that curates amazing experiences for others- a business where being me and sharing that passion is what draws others.”
Fast forward to today—I’ve built two successful maritime businesses, and I’m incredibly proud of the work we do. Along the way, I earned my USCG Masters Captain’s license. I knew I needed that credential not only to ensure I had the technical skills to operate a safe, professional business but also to earn the respect I wanted as a female maritime business owner and operator.
As someone who’s always had a strong business mindset, I’ve drawn on my years in cybersecurity, where I led technical teams of all ages and nationalities. I truly believe that leadership and operational excellence, regardless of the industry, are built on the same foundation: trust, accountability, and clear vision. I honestly feel that it’s that leadership experience that allowed me to create a business that offers a premium service and build a team that took a leap of faith on my company in its first year. I’m deeply proud and appreciative of my crew and the relationships we’ve cultivated along the way.
What I do now, at the heart of it, is simple: I create unforgettable experiences on the water. Whether it’s private charters, corporate rentals, or educational maritime experiences, we provide services that connect people with the ocean in ways they’ll never forget. But what sets my business apart is the commitment to excellence and personalized service. I’m not just another charter company—I’m a passionate, hands-on owner who’s on the water with my clients, ensuring every moment exceeds expectations. We’re dedicated to safety, professionalism, and creating the kind of moments that people cherish and remember long after they’ve left the boat.
What I’m most proud of is the fact that I’ve created a business that’s not just about profits, but about giving back. I’m here to be a role model, especially to women of color and underrepresented groups who might not see themselves in the maritime industry. I want them to know that if I can do it, they can too. I’m here to show them what’s possible, break down barriers, and leave a legacy that’s about lifting others up.
For potential clients, followers, and Captain Chim and RSYC fans: know that when you book or coordinate with us, you’re not just getting a charter cruise—you’re getting an experience with someone who leads a crew of people who genuinely cares about providing exceptional service, creating unforgettable memories, and who’s deeply invested in the growth and success of her community. My brand is about excellence, inclusivity, and above all, passion for what we do!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Funding my business was a real journey in itself. For three years, I worked a main job in cybersecurity while also taking on a side job to save up enough capital to purchase my first vessel. Good old fashion bootstrapping, I knew that starting a maritime business was going to require significant upfront investment, and the vessel would be a cornerstone to making my vision come to life. I made a conscious decision to live below my means during this period, prioritizing savings over luxuries, and staying laser-focused on my long-term goal.
During those years, I was working full-time as a virtual CISO and taking on extra hours in the evenings and weekends. I dedicated every spare moment to building my savings, cutting unnecessary expenses, and creating a financial plan to ensure that when the time came, I would be able to make that initial investment.
This experience taught me the value of patience, persistence, and the importance of staying committed to my vision. I didn’t take any shortcuts and made sure to create a financial cushion to ensure I could maintain the business once it launched. The sacrifice and hard work paid off, and today, I’m incredibly proud to be operating a business that’s not only financially stable but also aligned with my passion.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Just be yourself! Honestly, at 40 it has taken the self-work, healing, and the therapy full circle to arrive at this magical part in life where I’m confident and excited about just being authentically true to me every single day. I’m a former collegiate athlete so I’m built with a team mindset at my core. Being myself, showing up as a team player — not the owner all the time is very important. It matters to me if any of my crew is having a bad day and still is scheduled to show up in 100 degree weather to commit to someone else’s entertainment and safety. I’ll try to find ways to uplift you or show my gratitude that you still showed up and went above and beyond as an extension of the company. We laugh, we have fun, we take shots ! This year, I have a really cool idea to recognize crew when they’ve done something that’s really great and was truly recognized by a client.
