We were lucky to catch up with Amber Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe success requires consistency and the determination to push yourself—not just to work for yourself, but to strive for excellence in everything you do. In the world of hair and makeup, working for yourself can often be more challenging than working for someone else, but that’s exactly what makes the rewards so much more fulfilling.
Amber, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My journey in the beauty industry began in high school, where I discovered my passion for hairstyling by doing my friends’ hair whenever they came over. It was during these moments that I realized how much I loved helping others feel confident and beautiful. This sparked a deep appreciation for the beauty industry, and I’ve been honored to be a part of it ever since.
As I pursued my education, I had the opportunity to work at a small hair salon, where I gained hands-on experience by washing and braiding clients’ hair. That experience fueled my ambition and eventually led me to start working out of my apartment—first in my kitchen and later in a cozy nook with amazing natural lighting.
With time, dedication, and the unwavering support of my family and partner, I took a leap of faith and opened my own salon. Now, three years later, I’m proud to own a thriving business that allows me to continue doing what I love: helping others look and feel their best.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The moment I realized I needed a change was when I decided to open my own salon. I knew it was time to elevate my craft and transition from being a home hairstylist to building a brand that embodied luxury and glamour. I believed the first step toward achieving that vision was creating a professional space, and I’m so glad I took that leap—it’s been transformative for both my business and my personal growth.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
