We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dharmi Shah a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dharmi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I knew this was a worthwhile endeavor because I noticed a significant gap in support for women who were facing specific life challenges. Many women, whether they were going through personal struggles, transitions, or particular hardships, felt isolated and often didn’t have access to the kind of specialized community or resources they needed. While there are a lot of general resources for women, there wasn’t a tailored, focused space for those going through specific experiences—whether it was infertility challenges,, career transitions, divorce, or other challenges. I felt that creating a space where women could not only receive support but also connect with others in similar situations would be incredibly powerful.
The logic behind it was pretty clear to me: women thrive in communities where they can be understood and where their challenges are acknowledged. I believe that when someone feels truly seen and supported, it becomes easier to overcome even the toughest challenges. I wanted to create a space that removed the feeling of isolation and made women feel empowered, not just through advice, but by connecting with others who could share in their experiences.
I think what excited me the most about this idea was the opportunity to create something that could bring real, meaningful change to how women experience life’s challenges. It’s not just about offering a generic solution, but about creating a safe, authentic space that offers practical advice, emotional support, and a sense of community. This wasn’t something I saw others doing, at least not in the same way, so it felt like the right time to step in and build something that could offer that connection.
In essence, I felt like I was solving a problem that was both needed and missing, and doing it in a way that was uniquely focused on fostering community and empowerment for women facing life’s specific challenges
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I earned by Masters in Mental Health Counseling, but I didn’t pursue a traditional clinical path. Instead, I followed my passion for empowering women and helping them navigate life’s specific challenges. My own personal experiences—years of infertility, divorce, career changes, and many other obstacles—have shaped my mission and vision for my work. Looking back, I often wished I had someone to turn to who could truly understand what I was going through and offer the kind of support that was deeply empathetic and relatable, someone who could have helped me in making more sound decisions during a time when my brain was flooded with the lack of self esteem and confusion of the future. That’s when I realized that there was a huge need for a space that wasn’t about therapy or advice, but about community, connection, and real-world empowerment.
I founded my business, Refresh and Revitalize, with the goal of helping women who are going through their own specific challenges to feel less isolated and more supported. What sets us apart is our global reach—we offer continuous support to women around the world, creating a space where no matter where someone is located, they can connect, share, and receive the guidance they need. Whether it’s navigating infertility, a divorce, career transitions, or any of life’s other difficult changes, we provide a platform that fosters confidence, community, and emotional resilience.
I’m proud to be an award-winning coach for 2024, which was such an honor and recognition of the work I’m doing to make a real difference. I’ve had the privilege of traveling globally to share my message of empowerment and support with women everywhere, and the feedback has been incredible. What excites me most is seeing my clients transform—feeling stronger, more confident, and more capable of handling whatever obstacles life throws at them. The work we do helps them build not just skills, but the internal confidence they need to thrive.
What I want potential clients to know is that they’re not alone in their struggles. The Refresh and Revitalize community is built on the idea that we all grow stronger when we have the right support and connections. My goal is to help every woman who enters our community feel proud of the journey they’re on and empowered to face their daily challenges with grace and confidence. Whether you’re facing a personal or professional challenge, or simply looking for a safe and supportive space to grow while having a fun time doing it, I’m here to help you every step of the way. The support, community, and resources we offer are what I believe truly set us apart—this isn’t just about coaching, it’s about creating a transformative experience that lasts.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I’m a multi-disciplinary business owner with a broad and diverse background. My entrepreneurial journey began 20 years ago when I launched an event business, and since then, I’ve expanded into other areas. In addition to my role as a lifestyle coach with Refresh & Revitalize, I’m also the founder of The Corporate Experience, where we help companies strengthen their partnerships, optimize sponsorships, and build more cohesive, collaborative teams.
A piece of advice I frequently share with my clients is that micromanaging is one of the fastest ways to drive turnover and damage a company’s reputation. Instead, focus on becoming the company that people are excited to work for. Cultivate a management style that empowers your employees to thrive—not just under your leadership, but in ways that inspire them to develop into leaders themselves. Allow your team to bring their authentic selves to work and provide the flexibility they need to maintain a healthy work-life balance. This approach not only boosts morale but also leads to higher retention and a stronger, more productive company culture.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve had to pivot in various aspects of my life, both personally and professionally. One of the biggest pivots came when I made the decision to shift away from mental health counseling and pursue a different path. While it wasn’t the plan I had originally envisioned, it has turned out to be far more rewarding than I could have imagined. This change allowed me to focus on empowering others in a way that felt more aligned with my own experiences and passions.
On a personal level, I also had to make some drastic pivots, especially when facing infertility and challenges with family planning. It wasn’t the life I had dreamed of, but it forced me to grow in unexpected ways. I’m incredibly grateful for the new path I found during those tough times, as it not only helped me find strength but also allowed me to continue evolving both personally and professionally. These pivots have shaped who I am today, and I’m thankful for the lessons they’ve taught me along the way.
