Today we’d like to introduce you to Roberto Sanchez.
Hi Roberto, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since my childhood, I have felt a strong inclination towards the arts. Drawing and exploring creativity through sculptures, crafts, and various forms always captured my interest. During my teenage years, I was fortunate enough to be admitted to an institution that not only offered solid training in Visual Arts but also the opportunity to train as an educator.
At that institution, I had a drawing teacher who gave me my first steps in how to make a tattoo and the materials that could be used. At that time, I lacked the proper resources and had to improvise, creating my own tattoo machines in an artisanal and empirical way.
I always wanted to expand my knowledge and open new paths in my career, and that’s when a great job opportunity arose in Venezuela. I decided to take advantage of it and moved to teach art classes.
From the very first moment, Venezuela welcomed me with open arms, and over time I decided to stay in this beautiful country, where I had the chance to gain more knowledge in my field and expand my professional horizons. In 2014, I decided to dedicate myself professionally to becoming a tattoo artist, having greater access to better materials to develop in this profession, which led to significant growth in my work and eventually allowed me to work in the best studio in the country.
From 2014 to the present, I have developed my professional career continuously in the field of tattooing. Over time, I have cultivated a deep passion for this art, drawn by its technique and the uniqueness of working on a canvas as unique as skin. My constant dedication and effort led me, in 2021, to receive an extraordinary job opportunity in New York. Since arriving in this city, I have continued my work in the tattoo world, expanding and establishing myself in this dynamic and creative industry.

ScreenshotWe all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been an easy path. It has been a long journey in which I’ve learned the importance of perseverance and dedication to reach the position I hold today. During these 10 years, I have worked tirelessly, facing various difficulties, including the challenge of leaving my home country and adapting to a new environment. This experience, although challenging, strengthened me and motivated me to keep moving forward with the firm purpose of growing as a professional in the arts.
Moreover, facing such a competitive world as tattooing, where new talents with exceptional skills emerge every day, has pushed me to continue innovating and generating new ideas. The demand to create unique and innovative designs day after day is not easy. Creativity is an aspect that must be constantly trained to avoid repetition of designs and to maintain a unique proposal in this field.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My training in the arts and experience as a teacher have been fundamental in understanding and developing my work as a tattoo artist. The vision I acquired during my years of study has allowed me to apply aesthetic and technical solutions to my tattoos.
My style when creating is realism, or “magical realism” as I usually call it, and surrealism. These are the movements toward which my creativity leans. I enjoy incorporating elements that complement the design. I use colors that harmonize with the artwork, giving each piece I create a creative and unique essence.
My goal is to offer something different, a unique language, to create works that deeply connect with those who appreciate my work. I strive for each piece to have its own particular and unique language, reflecting my artistic vision and establishing an emotional connection with the viewer.
A key technical element in my work is the use of color. I always aim for my colors to appear natural and adapt to each piece created. If it’s a fantastical work, the color should tell the story; if it’s a realistic piece, the color should accompany the image in a coherent way. My goal is to evoke sensations when observing my work, always keeping contrasts and complementary colors in mind. When designing my artistic proposals, I use color psychology as a predominant and aesthetic element so that the viewer has a rich visual experience.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
As I mentioned before, consistency has been the most important pillar in my professional journey. It is essential to maintain focus, working diligently day after day, designing, creating, and continuously innovating. Dedication with passion and effort are the key elements to achieving success.
I believe it is crucial that each work and each design be unique and reflect the individuality of the artist. While it’s valuable to draw inspiration from others and have them as references, which is positive, it’s important to establish a personal style that sets you apart in this field.
