Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Schmorde.
Hi Tricia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started with a love and passion for dogs as a very young girl. I dreamed of raising dogs and had a love for wolves at a very young age. I wanted to be a different kind of breeder. So many I saw raised dogs like livestock and had far too many dogs to all be a part of the family. I set out to change this and bring awareness to dog raising and how it should be done to make man’s best friend a valid part of the family from birth up. In my opinion. I have my own views through my research on raising dogs and how it should be done.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For me, dog breeding comes very naturally not many struggles along the way. I have had some great influencers, mainly a Veterinarian who raised German Shorthaired Pointers. This veterinarian taught me a lot about raising dogs. I keep my program small and all my dogs are full-time valid family members. So being small keeps the quality up in your program.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work is my passion and my hobby. I specialize in raising Shiba Inus very small scale. My dogs are all valid family members full-time with me or with very close friends. I do not believe in raising dogs in kennels or outdoors away from you. This is such a crucially important piece of my program. From my lifelong studies on dogs kennel raising of puppies can have lifelong issues in my opinion if not fully socialized and exposed to human contact enough. Dogs are very social and through my research and my own opinion based on my studies of dog behavior etc. need to be raised closely to man for proper social development.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is having a very close friend surprise me with my first dog. She put him in my back yard I woke up to him. I had wanted a dog so very badly, but my father was allergic to them. I was fortunate my family let me keep the dog despite my father’s allergies. This is forever ingrained in my memory and will never forget my friend who made this happen for me. My first dog.
