We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Eva And Jonny. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Eva and Jonny below.
Eva and Jonny, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
We are very fortunate to be able to earn a full time living as stylists. With Eva having 7 years of experience doing dreadlocks and braid-ins and Jonny having 5 years experience of dreadlocks as well. Not only do we carry that knowledge, but we both also have over a decade of retail service, management, and have been in multiple areas of artistic industries that are implemented in all that we do.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are a full service salon with a focus on natural hair styles. All of our stylists have a background in the hair industry and joined together to share our passion with the community around us. We offer services ranging from dreadlock care, various braid styles, barbering, color services, haircuts, and styling. We also offer an abundant display of hair care products and decorations.
It’s such a great feeling to see our vision come to life and have the support of the many clients that come through the shop as well as the many local businesses in our area. It was also our mission to create an inclusive space for everyone to come and receive a quality service, and seeing the feedback we receive from our clients– we know we are on the right path.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Our goal when starting on this journey opening The Dread Keeper was to become the new standard for dreadlocks in Utah. We have some really talented artists and stylists in our salon and as owners, it’s our goal to showcase that talent. We want to be the best and stand the test of time.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I feel like the biggest reward is the freedom. The freedom to create my own schedule, freedom to grow and learn new things within the industry. Being salon owners provides us the opportunity to also share that with our team by giving them the same freedoms we enjoy from being an artist.
