We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Eugenia Renteria. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Eugenia below.
Alright, Eugenia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was in high school, my family and I took a road trip to Zacatecas, Mexico, every summer. My dad bought a VHS camera, and I eagerly took on the role of documenting our family adventures. That experience sparked my interest in filmmaking, and over the next few years, I spent countless days writing stories in my journal, often inspired by personal experiences.
Although filmmaking felt like a risky career choice, I initially chose a different major in college. However, halfway through my second semester, I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue my passion for filmmaking. Looking back, it was the best decision I ever made, and I haven’t looked back since.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The first few years after I graduated from Cal State Monterey Bay were challenging. I worked multiple jobs outside the industry, including a night shift as a caregiver. Despite the long hours, I always kept a camera close, spending my evenings and weekends learning as much as I could about filmmaking. That passion eventually led me to start my own production company.
Inspira Studios was founded eight years ago. At the time, I didn’t fully understand what I was trying to accomplish or the potential of this new journey—I just knew I wanted to make films. Slowly but surely, I transitioned to more complex productions, and as of nearly two years ago, I’m proud to say this is now my full-time career.
Currently, I am working on producing several short documentaries and narrative films that explore themes of environmental injustice, the impact of music education, and the immigrant experience. In addition to documentary and narrative work, I also produce branded content, helping organizations and businesses tell compelling stories that resonate with their audiences. I’m always open to new collaborations and excited to connect with others who share a passion for storytelling.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a desire to amplify underrepresented voices and bring to light stories that often go untold. Through my work, I aim to foster understanding, spark meaningful conversations, and inspire change by exploring themes such as environmental justice, the transformative power of art, and the resilience of immigrant communities. Ultimately, my goal is to create films that not only entertain but also leave a lasting impact on how we see the world and each other—especially in a time when society feels increasingly divided and empathy for our shared human experiences is more important than ever.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love the collaboration that filmmaking brings. It allows me to work alongside friends and collaborators who teach me so much about both work and life. Together, we get to create something meaningful and then share the joy of sitting in front of a screen and watching it come to life. Often, those films take on a life of their own, traveling to different places and sparking important conversations about access, community, and the power of storytelling.
