Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Abril Burgoyne. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Abril, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
I truly believe that we are all interconnected, and the success of one of my clients is a reflection of my own success. There’s nothing more rewarding than witnessing a family step into the joy of their first home. The journey they undertake, filled with the discipline and dedication required to make homeownership a reality, is nothing short of inspiring. For many of us, especially within the Latino community, this dream can often feel like a distant goal. Yet, with the right tools and supportive individuals by our side, it becomes achievable.
One story that particularly resonates with me is that of Leyla. For three long years, she poured her heart into the pursuit of her own home, facing challenges alone as a single woman. It was a difficult path, but the happiness that enveloped her when she finally secured a stunning new townhome—despite the odds—was beyond words. When she held those keys in her hands, tears of joy filled the room, as we all celebrated this monumental accomplishment with her. I am forever grateful to those who place their trust in us and allow us to walk alongside them in their unique journey. It is an honor to be a part of their stories and witness such profound moments of triumph.
Abril, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
It all began when I was buying my third home. At that time, despite my experience, I still knew very little about the home-buying process. I could barely speak English, and my husband had to do most of the work. Selling our existing properties was also a challenge. The market wasn’t like it is today; homes didn’t appreciate in value as they do now, and we didn’t have the funds required to sell them. That’s when I made a decision: I decided to get my real estate license.
Once I obtained my license, things began to change. I started receiving referrals from friends, and slowly, I began to grasp the intricacies of buying a home in this country. The moment it clicked, I thought to myself, “Wow, this process is much easier than in Latin America!” Inspired by my newfound knowledge, I started creating videos to share the home-buying process with others.
Now, ten years later, I’m still doing what I love, and I have the privilege of making a meaningful impact in the Latino community. If I can do it, so can you! Let’s explore this journey together, empowering one another to achieve the dream of homeownership. Your path awaits, and with the right guidance and support, you too can make it a reality.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
For a long time, I believed that in order to succeed in this country, I had to immerse myself solely in English and suppress my Spanish, thinking that my native language was of little value. However, I’ve come to realize just how mistaken I was. The truth is that being bilingual is an incredible asset, and there are countless individuals who need our help, especially those who share our cultural background.
In this diverse nation, we often think we’re alone in our experiences and challenges, but there are many people who resonate with our stories. They are searching for connection, understanding, and guidance. By embracing both languages and my cultural heritage, I have discovered a vibrant community eager for support and friendship.
Instead of viewing language as a barrier, I now see it as a bridge that connects us. There is so much hope in knowing that we can serve those around us by sharing our unique perspectives and insights. Together, we can create a network of understanding and compassion, empowering one another to grow and thrive. Let’s embrace our uniqueness and recognize that our backgrounds can be a powerful force for positive change in our communities.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My clients’ needs always come first—when you focus on serving others, everything else falls into place. As a Realtor, some may associate us with being sales agents, but for me, it’s never just about closing the deal or earning a commission. My priority is to guide my clients with integrity, even if it means starting over, canceling the process, or stepping aside if they choose to work with someone else. I truly believe that what is meant for me will always find its way, and if not, it simply wasn’t aligned with my highest good. While it can be difficult when others don’t see the effort you put in for them, I trust it’s all part of the journey
