Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacinth Headlam.
Hi Jacinth, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey started back in Jamaica, where I was born and grew up surrounded by a rich culture and vibrant community. I always loved performing and telling stories, so it wasn’t a surprise when I found myself drawn to acting. That passion brought me to New York, where I dived headfirst into the entertainment world.
I began as an actress, which was an incredible experience and opened many doors for me. Eventually, I got into scriptwriting and producing, and I published my first book, “Love After.” Which is my motivational memoir. Sharing my personal stories and connecting with readers was such a rewarding experience.
Wanting to do more, I started my company, InnaStar which is a non-profit organization. Through InnaStar, I’ve been able to help aspiring authors, self development programs-teaching confidence and filmmaking, organize the InnaStar Trailblazer Awards, and host events that showcase amazing creative talent.
Right now, I’m working on a few exciting projects. I’m writing a sequel to “Love After,” a children’s book I co-Author with my son Jayden Sutphin. Now gearing up for the release of my feature film “Love After Holidays” which was inspired by my book and will be released Winter 2024. Also looking to start pre-production on my film horror next year.
Through all these ventures, my goal is to inspire, uplift, and create opportunities for others to shine. It’s been a wild ride with its ups and downs, but I’m grateful for every step and excited about what’s next.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road! Like anyone chasing their dreams, I’ve faced my fair share of obstacles and challenges. Moving from Jamaica to New York was a huge transition. I had to adapt to a new culture, a new pace of life, and sometimes it felt like I was starting from scratch.
Breaking into the entertainment industry was tough. There were countless auditions, rejections, and moments of self-doubt. It’s easy to get discouraged when things don’t go as planned, but I kept pushing forward, knowing that persistence is key.
Starting my company, InnaStar, came with its own set of challenges. Building something from the ground up is never easy, and there were times when it felt overwhelming. Balancing multiple projects, managing a team, and making sure everything ran smoothly was a learning curve.
On a personal level, I’ve faced moments of burnout and had to find ways to maintain my mental health and well-being while juggling so many responsibilities. Learning to ask for help and building a support network has been crucial.
Despite these struggles, each challenge has taught me valuable lessons and made me stronger. They’ve shaped who I am today and fueled my passion to keep going, no matter what.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I wear many hats in the entertainment and creative industry, but at the core, I’m a storyteller. I’m an actress, scriptwriter, producer, and author. I started in acting, which is where my heart truly lies, but over the years, I’ve branched out into writing books, creating films, and running my own companies , InnaStar (501c3) and also Jacinth Media Productions llc.
I specialize in bringing authentic, powerful stories to life. My work often explores themes of love, resilience, and personal growth, which resonate deeply with my audience. I’m probably best known for my book “Love After” which inspired my upcoming film “Love After Holidays”. I’m also known for InnaStar which is making a global impact in the Arts. We teach InnaStar self development Art programming and host the InnaStar Trailblazer Awards not just here in the United States but also in Cayman Islands, Nigeria, and coming to my homeland Jamaica.
What I’m most proud of is the impact my work has had on people. Whether it’s a reader who found solace in my book, an aspiring author I’ve coached to writing and publishing their book, or a community member inspired by one of our InnaStar events, knowing that my work has made a difference is incredibly rewarding.
What sets me apart is my genuine passion for helping others tell their stories and sharing their journey of turning their pain to purpose. Through InnaStar, I’ve created platforms for emerging talents to shine, be it through our annual Award shows &. Gala, talent shows, or coaching/mentorship programs. My journey has been a blend of personal experiences and professional growth, allowing me to connect with people on a very real level. I’m committed to authenticity in everything I do, which I believe resonates with my audience and sets me apart in a crowded industry.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about our city is the vibrant and diverse culture. There’s an incredible energy here, and you can feel it in the art, the food, and the people. It’s a place where creativity thrives, and there are so many opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals and be inspired by different perspectives. I also love the sense of community and how people come together to support and uplift each other.
On the flip side, what I like least is the fast pace and sometimes the overwhelming hustle and bustle. It can be easy to get caught up in the rush and forget to take a moment to breathe and enjoy the little things. The cost of living can also be quite high, which can make it challenging for artists and creatives to find affordable spaces to live and work.
Overall, though, the positives far outweigh the negatives, and I’m grateful to be part of such a dynamic and inspiring city.
