Today we’d like to introduce you to Ranada Dalton.
Hi Ranada, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The older I get, the more I’m reminded of the importance of being flexible. I was definitely someone who had their life figured out in my late teens/early 20s. It’s quite comical how little my life looks like that plan. My sophomore year of college is when my plan was first rattled. I originally was going to be an OBGYN and Mental Health Therapist. To give more context, I’ve been saying I was going to be a doctor since I was in the 3rd grade. I still remember the day when it became clear that wasn’t happening. As I walked back to my dorm I remember thinking, you’re really just going to be a therapist, you’re not going to be a doctor. I must admit I was slightly surprised at how well I came to terms with this shift, but still grieved some.
I could have easily fought the changes, but instead decided to embrace them. I’m so thankful that I did! I cannot image not being a therapist. Even with that being said, the funny thing is still throughout the years I’ve experience numerous changes in my career. Some of which I’ve embraced, others not so much (I’m human). For example, this year (over 17 years later), I’m in the middle of big changes. Most of which I’ve needed to make for years, but haven’t for a host of reason. However, had I not, I wouldn’t be the owner/co-owner of two business, been able to work with so many amazing people and organizations, and have such wonderful experiences and education.
I’m excited for these new changes not only in my career, but also in my personal life. I’m grateful that I’ve allowed myself to be flexible. I can think of several times where my lack of being inflexible didn’t work out in my favor. However, change is inevitable. As much as we get comfortable, familiar, etc; that doesn’t always mean that’s what best for us. Even when it’s hard, it important to at least be open.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think one of my biggest challenges with being flexible and taking on change has been me getting in the way. If I’m truly honest and transparent sometimes my fear of success or of the unknown has gotten in the way. In those moments I sometimes worry about all the things that could happen (regardless how logical or not) or allow negative self-talk to take over. Fear, anxiety, and negative self talk can mess your life up. It could cause so many missed opportunity.
In those situations, I have to pray and see what God is telling me to do and have a real conversation about why I’m hesitant to change. Often times it does help me get more comfortable with the idea of being flexible. I also remind myself of Ryan Leak book Chasing Failure. This book was life changing for me because it shifted how I view failure and opportunities. The last obstacle I want to mention is procrastination. Although I’m highly aware that procrastination can be a symptom of many things. I’m not going to say I’m always super successful, but being aware, international, and actively working on these things helps.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love spending time with my family & friends, traveling, documentaries, music, and having experiences.
You won’t find me partaking in horror related things (it scares me lol), rude people, and people have no regard for others.
