We recently connected with Kevin Moore and have shared our conversation below.
Kevin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. undefined
In the 1980’s I started building electric guitars and because of the need to set myself apart from the rest of the manufacturers and builders, I focused on the aspect of an instrument’s sustain. My vision of the requirements needed to achieve the maximum amount of sustain was to make the instrument as solid and connected to the individual parts as possible so that the instrument would be as close to one solid piece as it could be. Because of the fact that guitar bridges and bass guitar bridges were poorly made and were one of the weakest links in making an instrument solid, I focused on designing a better bridge. The KSM Foundation bridge was the end result after years of reworks and finally going through the patent process. This bridge was originaly designed to function on my own guitar design, but I found that almost all basses could utilize the KSM designed bass bridge without modifications to the bass guitar.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I always liked wood working and my love of music inspired my desire to combine both. My first attempts were definitely learning experiences but without the failures along with the successes, the level of musical sound a good musician can pull from one of my instruments would not have been achievable.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
My initial belief was that if you build a better mouse trap people will beat a path to your door. This is an absolute fallacy, people like the processes that they are familiar with and resist new ideas. When musicans encounter the adjustment methods on my bridge they are unfamiliar with the process and shy away from the KSM.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
In the beginning I felt like we needed artists using the bridge that musicians were familiar with. I started contacting as many artists as I could and thankfully some very well know musicians have adopted the bridge. Because of this our reputation has grown and we now have many artists and luthiers that continually use our KSM Foundation bridge. We have exceptional ratings on Shopper Approved and our customer satisfaction level is almost 100 percent.
