We recently connected with Yalian Liang and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Yalian, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
For me, dumplings have always been about love and family. Growing up in China, I learned to make dumplings from my mother, and it became my way of showing care. When I moved to the U.S., I worked as a chef and saw how much people loved authentic, handmade dumplings.
I realized there wasn’t a place that captured the warmth and tradition of the dumplings I grew up with, so I decided to create it myself. At Love’s Dumpling House, every dumpling is made with the same care I gave my children—fresh, flavorful, and from the heart. Sharing this piece of my culture and seeing the joy it brings to others is what makes this journey so worthwhile.
I knew this was a worthwhile endeavor because it came from something deeply personal—my love for making dumplings and sharing them with others. When I moved to the U.S., I noticed how much people appreciated authentic Chinese food, but I also realized there was something missing. Many places offered dumplings, but few captured the handmade tradition and the care that goes into every fold, the kind I grew up with and made for my family.
What excited me most was the opportunity to share that love and tradition with a broader community. Dumplings are more than food—they’re a way to connect, to bring people together. I wanted to create a place where every dish told a story, where people could feel the care and heart behind each bite.
I believed this would work because dumplings are universal; everyone can find comfort in them. By staying true to fresh, high-quality ingredients and handmade techniques, I knew we were offering something special that was hard to find. Seeing people’s faces light up when they taste our food reminds me every day that this is more than a business—it’s a way to bring joy and create connections, one dumpling at a time.

Yalian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Mama Liang, the heart and soul behind Loves Dumpling House. My passion for cooking comes from my mother, who taught me the value of love and care in every meal. Growing up, she made sure our food was always healthy, fresh, and full of warmth. That love for family became the foundation of how I approach food, and it has guided me throughout my life.
For 14 years, I worked as a chef in a Chinese restaurant, mastering the art of dumpling-making and learning the skills that would eventually inspire me to create my own space. I dreamed of a restaurant where I could share the flavors of authentic Chinese cuisine while staying true to the values my mother instilled in me—care, quality, and nourishing the people we serve.
At Loves Dumpling House, we specialize in handmade dumplings, buns, noodles, and more. Every dish is crafted fresh daily, using high-quality ingredients and traditional techniques. From our delicate soup dumplings to our savory wontons in chili oil, each dish is a reflection of the authenticity and love we pour into our food. We also offer catering services and frozen dumplings to-go, so you can enjoy our flavors wherever you are.
What makes Loves Dumpling House special is our commitment to providing food that feels like home. Every dumpling is made with care, just as I cooked for my children—ensuring each meal is delicious, healthy, and filled with heart.
I’m most proud of how our restaurant has brought people together. Watching families and friends share stories and laughter over our food reminds me of why I started this journey. Loves Dumpling House isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a place where love, tradition, and community come together.
For those who haven’t visited us yet, we can’t wait to welcome you. Whether you’re dining in, catering for a special occasion, or taking home our frozen dumplings, we hope to bring a little warmth and joy to your day. Thank you for being part of our story!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When we first opened in August, there were days when sales were so slow that I couldn’t afford to keep my dumpling helpers. I had to let them go, which was heartbreaking because I believed in the vision of this restaurant but didn’t know if we could make it work.
Then, just a few months later, everything changed. Word got out about our food, and suddenly, we were so busy that I found myself staying up until midnight, folding dumplings by hand and prepping for the next day’s business. Despite the exhaustion, I refused to compromise on quality because I knew our customers deserved the best.
Looking back, those challenging days taught me so much about perseverance and staying true to my values. I’m grateful for every late night because they helped build the restaurant we have today.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe our reputation was built on three key principles: quality, authenticity, and genuine care for our customers. From day one, I’ve been committed to crafting every dumpling by hand, using fresh, high-quality ingredients, and staying true to the traditional methods I learned during my years as a chef.
We don’t take shortcuts, and I think customers recognize that dedication to quality. Beyond the food, we’ve always focused on creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere where people feel valued and cared for. Whether it’s through attentive service, listening to customer feedback, or supporting community events, we strive to build genuine connections.
Ultimately, I think what sets us apart is that every dish and every interaction is filled with care and authenticity. Our customers see that, and they’ve been kind enough to share their positive experiences, helping us grow through word-of-mouth and trust.
