We were lucky to catch up with Sierra Finley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sierra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I don’t know that I would define myself as a company, but I did start my business as a way to express feelings and bring light to topics that we shy away from. For years I have struggled with body dysmorphia and have found that through photography I can help others find their true self confidence as I did. My prints that can be found in local business and galleries embody a unique allure, inviting viewers to experience moments frozen in time while reflecting on the ephemeral nature of life. With each photograph, I invite everyone to pause, take a deep breath, and appreciate the limited time we have, reminding us that, like flowers, we are all fragile yet beautiful.

Sierra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a fine art photographer, known for my captivating imagery that explores the beauty of organic materials through a whimsical artistic lens. I graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2014. I went to work for a reverse engineering company with a team that helped artist create 3D models of tangible objects. My interest quickly led me to photogrammetry and working with the visual effects team in our office. While working in the film industry I relocated from Baltimore, Maryland to Fayette County just outside of Atlanta. About 3 years also I left the film industry and started working for a photography company taking photos of newborns, but also working on my own artwork on the side. I absolutely loved working with these families in such vulnerable moments and quickly realized that without photography many of our “memories” fade or are burled by what our minds tell us. These images protect those memories and can remind us of things that could be forgotten. My family relocated for a year to Los Angeles where my second daughter was born. I took almost the whole year off focussing on my family, but dreaming of what could be. When we returned to the east coast with the support of my husband and kids I took off running to turn my ideas into a business. I use a gentle, soft focus, to capture the essence of families, maternity, boudoir, and newborns, conveying the delicate beauty and resilience inherent in the human experience. I have met so many people through my business including clients and other artist that now feel like friends. Having that moment to realize when you book a photography session, yes you’re looking for a gallery, but that gallery is going to remind you of the experience you had with that photographer. It’s the same way with works of art, they make you feel and that feeling is your experience with the art that you will remember every time you see it.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Social Media and word of mouth. So many people what to hear directly from others who they would recommend to work with and I can not thank those who recommend me enough. It always brings a smile to face when I see someone who I loved working with tossing my name into a hat.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to tell and or capture a moment in time. Something that will never be exactly the same. We spend so much time waiting for the next thing to come along that we start forgetting what just happened. Even though I say this I have a hard time not waiting for something to change or be different, but I have grown to realize having having these reminders around help me ground myself and live in every moment.
