We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ta’lor Floyd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ta’lor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I’m hoping to leave a legacy full of love, creativity, knowledge & curiosity! An impactful legacy that leaves people with plenty of feelings of true connection, creativity, empathy, and inspiration.
I think people would say that I am a pretty cool & chill person overall, very talented, creative, stylish, down to earth, funny and good at whatever she does! A non judgmental, caring soul who is for the people and gives great advice.
I hope to be remembered for all my creations and collaborations with different mediums including fashion design, tailoring, art, and film. My personality and the energy that I have and spread to others! My love for the arts and not being afraid to get my hands dirty, in any capacity.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Ta’lor Floyd and I am Tailor, Fashion Designer, Tour Wardrobe Manager, Filmmaker & more based in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California originally from PG County, Maryland.
Sewing, my creativity and curiosity has gotten me to where I am today. I’ve been sewing for 12+ years, young, in college, I learned a lot while studying Film and working in the Costume Shop on campus after being introduced by a Theater professor after getting an A+ on a costume design assignment. They hired me, so working there, I learned a lot about sewing costumes, making patterns, alterations inspiring me to create my own designs. Simultaneously, I joined a Modeling team on campus. For the final Fashion Show all models had an assignment to design your own shoe to wear in the show. I spiked and painted a pair of purple Nike Blazers and posted on my Instagram page. I then started taking custom shoe customization orders, then eventually clothing orders from peers online. Moving forward from that moment I assumed the position of being a creative entrepreneur and fashion designer, then eventually much more!
I provide a vast range of knowledge and experience with clothing, sewing, tailoring, production and business. I provide private, custom & mobile tailoring, fashion design & tour wardrobe services. I work with high profile clientele on personal projects to big productions. I am currently the Tour Wardrobe Manager for Gwen Stefani’s band and dancers since 2022.
I run my own clothing brand Mink Tiers in which I created in 2019, selling cool hand-made, dyed, and/or screen-printed clothing items all over the world and still developing. Currently selling online, in Washington D.C. & Los Angeles.
I think what sets me apart from others is my experience working in many different creative spaces with plenty of different people working towards a common goal mainly being to create beautiful clothing. I don’t like to put myself in a box or not take risk. I think my confidence and dedication to the craft has played a big part in where I am today. My excitement, energy and understanding of any & every human that I get the opportunity to help is what sets me apart. I love what I do. I feel so blessed to be able to live this life.
I am truly most proud of myself & my resilience. I am so proud of how I have taken creative risks and worked hard for where I am. My focus to stay on this creative journey without knowing what would come out of it.
The main thing that I would want potential clients/followers/fans to know is that I am still just getting started on this journey & will continue to show up & develop everything that I offer. There is so much work to do that I am excited for. Stay tuned!!!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I have built my audience on social media by truly just being myself, posting my interests & accomplishments. Posting my style & art and not being afraid to promote myself. I have kept most of my post up since I first started Instagram in 2012, around the same time that I started sewing, showing my followers year after year how I am still on this creative journey.
Advice I would give to those just starting is to be yourself, don’t compare yourself, become tech savvy, take risks & don’t be afraid to show yourself, that’s the point of it all. Work hard and stay consistent!!!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is networking, staying the course and doing great work. Word of mouth is how I get most of my clients, after doing good work for one person, they are always happy to refer me to new clients.
Strong communication, flexibility, being knowledgeable and personable are all good traits that will bring success. Keeping your word and making sure the client is satisfied is always important. Not being afraid of new opportunities and taking each job head on with positivity and optimism are keys to success.
