We were lucky to catch up with Frida Cossio recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Frida, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
In 2021, like many others, I found myself at a crossroads. The pandemic had turned life upside down, leaving me furloughed from my Dallas PR job and craving new opportunities. My position with a Dallas agency had restarted slowly, and I felt the urge to challenge myself. Determined to take a leap, I scoured LinkedIn for freelance opportunities that I could do remotely. That’s when I connected with a communications agency based in Pennsylvania and was hired as a PR Specialist.
This role was a significant shift from my previous focus on lifestyle, beauty, fashion, and restaurants. Suddenly, I found myself working in risk management, tech, nonprofits, and other industries that required a more serious tone. Initially, I worried if I’d be good at it, but I embraced the challenge. With time, I found my footing and learned a completely new side of PR. I credit my mentor and boss, Sophia, for guiding me and helping me grow my toolkit and skills. That leap opened doors to incredible projects, clients, and colleagues who enriched my experience as a PR professional.
Fast forward to 2024, I found myself still freelancing and searching for my next full-time role. I decided to follow another passion: food, drinks, and travel. Inspired by my love for exploring new places and creating itineraries for my boyfriend and me, I started an Instagram account dedicated to sharing these experiences. This wasn’t my first creative venture—I had written for PaperCity Magazine and even dabbled in a fashion blog during college. But life’s responsibilities had always pulled me away from these outlets.
This time was different. With a renewed focus, I poured myself into my food and travel blog. In the past year, I’ve traveled to incredible places like New York, Las Vegas, Mexico, France, the UK, and Morocco, sharing these journeys with my followers. What began as a creative outlet has evolved into a project I’m truly proud of. From sharing meals and stories to offering custom travel itineraries, it’s been a rewarding experience that combines my love for creativity and storytelling.
If I hadn’t taken that first risk to dive into freelancing in 2021, I might not have built the confidence to launch my food page. Both steps taught me the value of leaning into discomfort, trusting my instincts, and creating opportunities for growth. Whether it’s crafting PR strategies or sharing travel tips, these outlets allow me to use my skills, explore my passions, and contribute something meaningful to the world. And I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Throughout my life, I’ve always been drawn to creativity—whether it’s painting, crafting, writing, or blogging. This desire to create has been my constant and has kept me grounded through life’s twists and turns. I was born in Fort Worth but raised between the U.S. and Mexico, an experience that shaped me into someone who embraces duality. Navigating two cultures during my formative years wasn’t always easy, but it taught me to celebrate differences and see the world through a unique lens.
I attended UT Austin, where I studied Public Relations and Business, a combination that allowed me to explore my creative and strategic sides. My time there was transformative—I interned in industries like tech, fashion, and music and even started a fashion blog that gained traction (before life pulled me in other directions).
After graduation, I returned to the Dallas-Fort Worth area to explore my career options. An internship at a PR agency in Dallas introduced me to the city’s rich culture and vibrant subcultures in music, fashion, and art. I fell in love with Dallas, eventually moving here permanently in 2022. My work in PR, marketing, and social media helped me establish connections with amazing clients and communities, but it was my exploration of Dallas’ dining and bar scene with my boyfriend that inspired my next creative venture.
In 2024, I launched Frida’s Eats N Sips, a food and travel page where I document my experiences, review the Dallas food scene, and share travel recommendations. The page has been a passion project that combines my love for storytelling with my curiosity for new experiences. Recently, I’ve also started curating custom travel itineraries for people, a service I’m excited to expand further.
Alongside my food and travel ventures, I continue to work in PR and marketing, always seeking ways to blend inclusivity, representation, and cultural context into my projects. Whether through creative campaigns, innovative social strategies, or showcasing hidden gems in Dallas and beyond, I’m driven by the idea of making things fresh and meaningful.
At the heart of everything I do is the desire to inspire others. I want people to step out of their comfort zones, explore new places, and embrace life’s adventures. My goal is to show my community in a positive light, proving that we belong in every space—whether it’s at the table in a new city or leading innovative projects in the professional world. For me, creativity isn’t just a passion; it’s a way of life, and I’m excited to see where it leads next!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission, whether through my food and travel page, my writing, or my professional career, is to open the world to people and inspire them to explore, be curious, and connect with cultures beyond their own. I believe travel and exposure to different customs, histories, and people are some of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves and those we care about.
In the U.S., it’s easy to become insulated in our beliefs and personal experiences, making it challenging to embrace or even consider other perspectives. My creative journey is about breaking down those walls and showing how transformative it can be to step out of our comfort zones.
My passion for travel began in college when friends who loved exploring inspired me to start venturing out, even with a limited budget. I made trips back to Mexico to rediscover my roots, and eventually, I spent three weeks in Europe with my best friends, immersing myself in food, drinks, culture, art, and history. That experience was a turning point for me, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Now, as I travel more frequently, I make it a point to immerse myself fully in each destination, leaning into its culture, customs, and stories. Through this, I’ve learned that travel isn’t just about the places you visit but the perspectives you gain and the connections you make.
I want to inspire others to embrace the world with open minds and hearts—to be accepting, curious, and inspired by all the beauty and diversity out there. Whether it’s through my professional projects, travel itineraries, or sharing my experiences online, my goal is to spark a sense of wonder and encourage others to explore the world and everything it has to offer.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
As I’ve grown older, one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is second-guessing myself—my abilities, my place in the world, and what I bring to the table. I don’t think I’ve always been this way. Looking back, I see how bold and fearless I once was. I was the middle schooler who tried every extracurricular activity, the high schooler who leaned into fashion and embraced her uniqueness, the college student who followed her dreams of working in fashion and music, and the young professional who dove headfirst into a PR career that eventually rooted me in Dallas, a city that’s become my home and community.
Somewhere along the way, though, doubt started creeping in. Maybe it’s from gaining experience and becoming more cautious, or perhaps it’s the natural self-reflection that comes with age. But this year, I’m making it my mission to unlearn that doubt and reconnect with the version of myself who wasn’t afraid to take up space, speak up, and pursue her passions with confidence.
As a Hispanic woman, I’ve sometimes felt the pressure to prove myself, navigating a world that doesn’t always see you as a force to be reckoned with. But I’ve come to realize that much of that pressure stems from within. The fear of failure or rejection can hold us back, but I’ve learned that true power and confidence come from within, not from external validation.
This year, I’m focusing on being bold again—occupying spaces unapologetically, speaking up for what I want and believe in, and reminding myself that I am capable of evolving, starting over, and reinventing myself whenever I choose. That’s the beauty of growing older and wiser: realizing that you hold the power to shape your life, embrace your potential, and move forward with purpose.
