We were lucky to catch up with Ron Pivaro recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ron, appreciate you joining us today. What’s something crazy on unexpected that’s happened to you or your business
Posh Privy provides services to the government. We are currently under agreement to provide services for NASA and their capsule recovery team. The NASA team practices retrieving astronauts from the capsule and requires Posh Privy units on the pier and at the warehouse where the capsule is stored. We find it amazing that Posh Privy receives notices from Mission Control in Cape Canaveral regarding changes in the Rocket Launch Schedule.

Ron, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Owner Ron Pivaro is a retired military Navy Veteran and while working as a Safety and Health officer in the shipyards he decided to start his own business. After seeing the need for high end restroom services in San Diego, Posh Privy was born. Posh Privy provides restroom trailers to venues and individuals in San Diego County. We look at difficult client requests as challenges, not problems. To overcome these challenges we meet with the clients in person, conduct site surveys, provide water or power and have specialized equipment (an electric aircraft dolly) to maneuver the trailers into tight locations. We are thankful to the many Wedding Coordinators, Venues and Hotels that routinely refer us to clients. We are proud to have never missed an event, our many 5 Star Google reviews and providing services in an hour or less in emergency situations.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Posh Privy Restroom Trailers are in the neighborhood of $40K after delivery and shrink wraps. Business loans were high interest at 6% and higher so we had to come up with a way to avoid that high interest. We were able to refinance our home and cash out to fund the full price of the first unit. It is always risky with the unknown and although we had a business plan we had no idea if the business would succeed or not. During the first 18 months of starting Posh Privy Ron was still working full time in the Shipyards while providing services with Posh Privy on weekends. After our calendar started to fill, we purchased another unit, and after the calendar filled for that unit we purchased another and Ron resigned from his position as Safety and Health manager in the shipyards. We currently have four units and the business is as successful as it can be without expanding and hiring employees.

Have you ever had to pivot?
For the Pandemic we thought business would decline as special events were cancelled. We refunded everyone’s deposits with no questions asked. What happened is a demand at business’, schools and the government for Long Term Rentals. We were fortunate to have an 18 month rental to KFMB Channel 8 in San Diego. That rental and others helped us make it through the tough times.
