Heaven, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
First things first , I love working for myself. I can’t imagine what life would be like without being a creative. I’ve been into the performing arts and craft industry since I was a young child. I always knew that I’d put my mark on something that I needed to be hands on with. I’m definitely happier with being a creative than having a regular job because I get to work for myself , my job goes according to my own values and what I believe in. By being a creative I get to make magic every time I open a computer screen, log onto my phone, turn on a microphone. Being a creative allows me to tap into my full potential and be powerful. When I think about working a regular 9-5, I don’t think I would be happier . I think I would be bored with life, every day now I wake up to something new it’s never the same routine, it’s never the same schedule. Helping people be expressive or creating magic is absolutely thrilling and everyday I wake up grateful that I’m changing someone’s day by doing my own thing and being content with it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
When I first got into my craft as an On Air talent I started out with OnAirWithSir, it’s a brand and a company. My Boss was a live radio host for Philadelphia’s HipHop and R&B station. Once he created his own platform for the community , I jumped at the opportunity to join because I loved to talk, that’s who I am. By learning from him hands on I was able to experience so much knowledge in a short time about radio life. Often I was able to go into the radio station and be on air with him and even was blessed with the chance to interview with celebs.
Working closely with him and learning the techniques of radio I started to gain interest in the marketing side of things and the graphics behind the flyers. It inspired me to learn more about graphic design and digital marketing. Once I started making my own flyers , i started using my talent to help others around me. At first it started out with doing flyers for my home church , into taking over their social media and rebranding it myself. That was a task I’ve never done before , without any directions I took it head on and just did it. I still thank my pastor and church family for giving me the opportunity because it gave me the confidence to keep going and to do more. When I didn’t like the way something was made I did it myself, I kept going until it was perfect. Working nonstop everyday getting better at my craft created a discipline in me to always be the best , always create your best.
Most clients come to me and don’t know what they want so it allows me to freestyle for them and give myself a new challenge on how creative I can be. I’m most proud of the results and client satisfaction once I’m done a project. When I receive feedback, i really listen and take into consideration what I’m told because it’ll help me be more efficient in the future. I want all clients , past and future to know when they see my work that I care. I put my 100% into whatever I do like it’s mine because I want people to see I value their time and they make me as a creative inspired to be a tool that helps them in their business. I want everyone to feel like they have the best because I put my all in to make it the best.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When reaching out to a specific audience as a creative it can be hard if you don’t already have a million followers. However , I’ve learned that you have to start small in order to be big. For me personally I started off with people I already knew. Word of mouth goes a long way. By reaching out to my followers on Instagram/Twitter/Facebook etc and asking friends and family to repost was all the exposure I needed. Going to networking gatherings, concerts and other events I always had a business card or my phone out ready to exchange my social media . You can’t be afraid when building , you have to be BOLD!

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Now looking back into my journey being a creative, I do wish I knew about services like Canva when I first started because it has helped me to create my own style and to see what preferences people like more. They have so many templates to choose from if you’re making flyers, business cards , menu’s , resumes, letters and so much more . All have which I was able to play around with and use those tools to create something new for my clients.
