We were lucky to catch up with Enrique De La Pezuela recently and have shared our conversation below.
Enrique, appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
I have learned over the years to always under promise and over deliver. We always give the client more than you promised them. A happy client is the best FREE Marketing.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have had a passion for the visual arts since I was very young. Though most of my adult life has been spent in the Architectural and Construction industries in one way or another. During that time I would constantly take photos and video of my projects to document the construction process. One day, a client sees one of the photos on my computer and asks, “Who took that photo?” I answered I did, then he replied “that looks amazing”, would you be interested in taking some more for our website, I will pay you. And so began my photographic career… Later on my wife retires from the beauty industry and I suggest let’s start a Cooking Channel on YouTube, “CookingwithRody” now has almost 42k subscribers. Word starts to gets around and what started as a passion I can now charge good money for. While currently it is still a Side hustle nights and weekends, Since I make good money as a Senior Superintendent in the Construction industry, Photo and Video is more of my retirement plan. With the ever-growing need for Social Media content, I find many small businesses looking for photo and videos to post on their social media platforms.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When Covid hit it was very difficult, I had many events cancelled, deposits and payments, that I was counting on were gone. My wife and I, as many during that time went thru a lot of stress. I used that time to work on my craft taking courses on line and taking any kind of work that would pay to get thru that era. I worked as a photographer at Universal for a time and a camera-man for a YouTube producer. Neither of which paid much, but I was more interested in the practice and honing my skills learning from others and getting real world experience. I learned a lot from that period and made a lot of quality network contacts…many of which I am still in contact with today.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I used to hear other Videographers and Photographers ask clients “What is you budget?” and while you may get lucky once and a while, it is not the way to build and sustain a business. I learned from my friend Ty Turner of Flashfilm Academy, to be able to grow a business and and charge proper fees you MUST provide VALUE…When you show potential clients Value, they will never hesitate in cutting the check. Also B2B projects are always more profitable, than dealing with personal clients with smaller budgets.
