Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shanice Hendrix. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shanice, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
My journey to becoming a special education advocate began with a deeply personal and challenging experience—navigating the education system on behalf of my son. As a parent, I quickly realized how difficult it was to access the resources, supports, and services my child needed to thrive. I felt like I was fighting a battle with limited knowledge, while the schools seemed to hold all the power simply because they knew what I didn’t.
The process was overwhelming and exhausting. Every step felt like an uphill climb—asking questions, researching, and trying to make sense of laws, policies, and procedures designed to support children with unique learning needs. I was a highly involved parent, educating myself every step of the way, yet the lack of transparency and resistance I faced was disheartening. If it was this hard for me, I couldn’t help but wonder: How many other parents are going through this same struggle? How many families are being left in the dark, unable to advocate effectively for their children?
This realization fueled my passion and purpose. I knew that if the school system could be so noncompliant and dismissive of my efforts as an informed, proactive parent, then other children and families—those who didn’t know where to start or what questions to ask—were likely facing even greater injustices. That thought ignited a fire within me to make a difference.
I decided to become an advocate, not just for my son, but for all children who need someone in their corner. My mission became clear: to guide and educate parents and caregivers about the special education process and to ensure schools provide the supports and services every child deserves for their success. I wanted to be the person I had needed during my own journey—someone who could shine a light on the path forward and stand up for the rights of children with disabilities.
What sets me apart in this work is my unique perspective as a parent turned advocate. I’ve walked in the shoes of the families I now support. I know the emotional toll, the frustration, and the fear of not knowing whether your child’s needs will be met. But I also know the empowerment that comes from being informed and having someone by your side who understands the system.
Today, I am proud to be that guide and support for others. Through my work as a special education advocate, I strive to empower families, ensure accountability from schools, and most importantly, create opportunities for children to reach their fullest potential. It’s more than a career—it’s a calling born out of love, determination, and a belief in every child’s right to succeed.
