Today we’d like to introduce you to Debby Lightman.
Hi Debby, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always been inspired by my passion for making art, although I never went to art school & my formal education took a different path. I pursued degrees in elementary education and psychology. I earned my masters degree in psychology with a specialty certification in mindfulness education, meditation, and yoga. My career began in elementary schools, where I taught mindfulness practices to young students.
Seeking to expand my reach and impact, with the hopes of spreading self-love, kindness, and compassion with others, I integrated mindfulness into my art and products. This led to the founding of Mindfulnice, my business dedicated to promoting a mindfully nice life through a range of unique products. Today, Mindfulnice products are featured in over 400 retail shops nationwide. My mission is to continuously create art and products that inspire and support mindfulness, helping others lead more fulfilling and balanced lives. The essence of Mindfulnice is to make the practice of mindfulness accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Balancing the responsibilities of being a mother to three children while growing my business has been one of my biggest challenges and is a continuous struggle. I’ve found that structure, routine, and self-care play a big part in my success and I always make sure to balance the transition from family to business with my own self-care. Additionally, my educational background in psychology and education didn’t prepare me for the intricacies of running a business, which I had to learn along the way. Despite these obstacles, I’ve persevered and am now successfully managing a thriving art business. This journey has been a testament to my commitment and passion for helping others lead mindfully nice lives.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
All of my products are designed with a mindfulness theme, lesson, or activity at their core. One of my best-selling products, Mindful Minute Activity Cards, was created based on my mindfulness lessons. These cards offer activities that are suitable for anyone, of any age, and can be practiced anytime and anywhere. I am currently creating new versions of these activity cards. I also create and sell affirmation card sets called Pick-Me-Up Cards, greeting cards, handmade gemstone jewelry, mindful stitching kits, journals, art prints, stickers, and more. In addition to these products, I am a surface pattern designer, licensed with several companies for use on products. Each of my patterns carries a mindfulness story or lesson, inspired by my own mindfulness practices. Every product or pattern I create is made with the intention of helping others in some meaningful way.
Currently, I am working on an online course about making intuitive abstract art and how the process is a mindful activity. This course aims to guide individuals in integrating mindfulness into their creative processes, fostering a deeper connection to their art and themselves. Through all my work, I strive to make mindfulness accessible and beneficial to a broader audience.
