We were lucky to catch up with Fara Charles recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Fara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
When I initially started my podcast, it was really due to the fact that my friend asked me to be a part of her Event and I told her I didn’t physically have a talent like doing hair, vending, rapping or singing. And her response was well just do what you do. I was like OK, this would probably be the perfect opportunity to do a live broadcast of the first episode of my podcast, the Fara Charles podcast. So that’s what we did, and she produced the episode and the entire season of season one! Literally all I did to prepare for the episode was select 5 interesting people: King Tetrus, Frankie Red Word, Onkore Sound, Daniel Jeter and more. Find out if they were available for the date and time I’d be broadcasting. They all agreed. Then I worked on my look outfit hair, make up. I think those things are very important especially for your very first episode of your Podcast. And lastly, I did my homework on every single guest and made sure to ask them questions that I knew would align with what they did and it was just an amazing first episode. You can find it on YouTube just Search: the Fara Charles Project. Make sure you like and subscribe also, Thanks loves.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’d say I’ve been in this industry now for 23 years and I love every aspect of it! I’ve tried so many different times to leave this industry and every time I’m invited back, it’s with a bigger opportunity and it’s hard to not take certain career changing opportunities. (I also go back because the entertainment INDUSTRY is my passion) I started off as a dancer, dancing for Dancehall artists like Sizzla, Spragga Benz, Cecile, Spice and, the list goes on and on. I earned my popularity through having a successful dance career. Quickly after, I started to change my wardrobe as far as fashion was concerned and made sure that every time I stepped out I looked amazing and unique.. but always chic! Which led me into becoming a Promoter. I started in Atlanta with the Dream girls (S/o my Atl crew Iykyk) and then in 2012 moved to Florida and began doing events like: lipstick stains, Artbaselish, topless, and more. I wanted to start doing more fashion forward event because my true love was fashion, and I wanted to bring that to The forefront in Fort Lauderdale. I also noticed in my community. We had a lot of talented people that didn’t have following so they weren’t being supported by the masses because they weren’t popular enough. Meanwhile, most people that were popular were using the underdogs to get there and taking all the credit. So I wanted to create a platform for the underdogs and use my following to help them gain more support and that’s how The Fara Charles Project was born! I had my first Fashion Show on a random Wednesday at a club in Hollywood Florida at 8PM and we sold out every seat! Since then we’ve done 10 more shows! I’m most proud of keeping my brand alive and successful for the passed 10 years and I’m the most proudest of us taking the brand to different cities like Atlanta and Brooklyn And actually being able to pull off successful shows on a national scale. WE’VE ALSO produced our first reality show called The Fara Charles Project (you can find that on YouTube) in 2022 and now we have our Podcast TFCPodcast that we’re so excited to launch season 2 for next month February 2025!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is everybody really can’t go. You want to take a lot of people with you when you become successful and start to grow but at the same time you realize that your vision is not your friends or your family’s vision so they are not going to Love and have the Passion that you have for your brand or business Like you do. I quickly had to learn that as much as I’d like to take everyone with me I just can’t and it’s nothing personal but some things you just have to do on your own.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Honestly, the most effective strategy for gaining or growing your clientele is doing the job right the first time. And believe me I didn’t do this a lot of times to the point where I was just like how do people still hire me because I’m always half assing everything, but it’s because people believed in me and knew that I could do it. So they continued to give me the opportunity to prove to them that I am who I say I am and that’s what I started to do. I started to take on projects that I knew I could execute at 100% and if I couldn’t give it 100% then I wouldn’t take the project or the opportunity. And by working with that strategy, I began to gain more clientele than I was losing. And as we all know Word of mouth is not dead, it’s actually the best referral you can ever receive for your business.
