Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elke Kahler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Elke, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first knew I wanted to be infront of the camera when I was about 5 years old, sitting on the floor, completely mesmerised by all the Elvis movies dad had us watching. I fell inlove with the glitz and the glamour of Hollywood and began performing and story telling to my family and anyone who would watch or listen. My dad video recorded on the old dad cam pretty much my entire childhood and I absolutely loved being filmed and watching it all back, purely for the joy and entertainment it brought everyone. I knew this was what brought me the most happiness and was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Elke, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Having modelled for 15 years, studied and pursued acting for 10, my career is now taking me to the land of TV hosting. I found that my love for yapping away and my dedication in extra curricular school activities such as debating, which later lead to being named School Captain (Class President) has naturally formed the skills, passion and career of Hosting and Presenting. I grew up in a small town in Queensland, Australia and moved to our big city of Sydney straight after school. I continued to model whilst dabbling in acting classes and that is where my true love for expressing myself on camera came from. Studying both in Sydney and LA, I learnt from some of the best and began working predominantly commercially infront of the camera full time within a couple of years. Video, stills, fashion and lifestyle filled my days however I realised I am most fulfilled when I am completely myself and expressing my true fun loving personality on camera through hosting. Now based between LA and Sydney, I work as a host for Live Play Bingo which is enjoyably sharpening my hosting chops for the big network shows yet to come. I have discovered that I have an extremely unique and ambiguous look that resonates well in all markets, a personality that is relatable and enjoyed by both genders and charisma that engages the masses. Whether is be a print ad, commercial, informative video for various companies or hosting interviews or TV shows, I am your girl and can’t wait to see where my career takes me.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative artist is collaborating with other incredibly creative, talented people and producing works of art or I like to say – pure magic. Seeing the finished product, whether it be in magazines, online, on TV or the big screens is always a pinch me moment however, the process, teamwork and relationships built to create it are by far my favouite part. I have met so many lifelong friends, mentors and even partners through my work and the connections made on set fill me with the most joy.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
The journey of me moving to LA to live and work is no walk in the park. It took nearly 2 years, a house deposit and a whole of of resilience to make this lifelong dream come true. Social media is a highlight reel and so many people see me living this vibrant lifestyle in LA, constantly flooding my DM’s with questions on how they can do the same. All I can say is it’s a journey that requires so much passion, resilience and the strongest WHY. I beliveve LA is where I need to be to grow my career and take it to the next level and the multiple visa set backs, never ending costs and unsettling few years could not deter me from that end goal. The US immigration is not for the faint hearted and they definitely don’t make it easy for foreigners to relocate. I advise everyone dreaming of doing the same to gather as much information from friends or people who have been through it all, before starting the process. I would have done it so differently, but if I can shed some light on the process and help make it easier for others, I would be doing my little bit. Good laywers, a solid portfolio and rock solid support network in both the US and Aus are imperative, the first I was lacking but it built me into the strong woman I am today. Decide what it is that you want, belive in yourself and never take no for an answer because anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I am walking proof of that.
