We recently connected with Nicole Collins and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nicole thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
Growing up, my parents made sure to instill confidence that I think they wish they had. Both my mother and father have always told me that there was no limit to what I chose to do and to what I could accomplish. With this, I have gone through life and never second guessed my ability to go for what I wanted or switch careers. Which that being said, I left my nutrition office job and dove head in to the world of flowers. What began as simple arrangements, morphed into large scale weddings and corporate events.

Nicole, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Nicole, a Los Angeles to Denver transplant who now owns a boutique floristry studio just north of Denver, CO. We create one of a kind designs for our clients – from full wedding weekends to corporate galas and events. We bring our clients personalities and visions and create stories and experiences with our installations and pieces. We have a signature garden whimsy meets urban artistic style that is really one of a kind. We don’t do “copy paste” Pinterest weddings. We design completely custom pieces for each client. Each of our clients walk away not only feeling confident in their event design, but also feel like they have a florist and friend for the future they can count on. With our foundation of being a Latina owned business, everyone gets a very personal experience while planning and also opens up doors for our international clients who wish to have their event in any Spanish speaking country. In just a few years, we were able to go from a one woman show to a team of four.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The wedding vendor market can look very different – especially in luxury weddings and events. For us, we have always upheld and shone a light on our Latina background and have always provided a warm and personal experience with our clients and other vendors in our community. Our brand is colorful and fun, which you can expect to translate when meeting us in person.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Truthfully, La Luna Florals was meant to be a side hustle, so I had zero capital besides what I had coming in from my pervious office job. This business was 100% built as I went and was completely out of pocket. We are so happy to say we are completely self made.
