Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany Nash. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brittany, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I may have an unconventional view of success, While a lot of people like to measure success by metrics capital, I measure success on satisfaction in the direction you are taking your passions and purpose. That means what it takes to be successful looks different for me also.
Having a good sense of who you are and what you stand for is crucial when making decisions that lead to success, You’ve heard of the adage “Not all money is good money,” I feel this is the same with opportunities that come your way, More often than not, the rhythm of my intuition (creatively or in career endeavors) is guided by what I value.
For example, since my college years, I have been driven to collaborate in community spaces. 20 years later, I still find this is a driving force of how I make choices for my business and share all the forms of my art.
Brittany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Goodness, where to start?! I like to say I am a creative at heart. So there is always going to be an artsy part to whatever I bring my skills to. As the owner of Ebon Business Services its no surprise I ended up in the marketing industry, I am fascinated with how I can help community organizations and small businesses tell their stories in engaging ways.
What is great about what I share narratives through many different mediums. With a passion for helping businesses connect meaningfully with their communities, I specialize in creating strategic marketing initiatives that foster engagement, growth, and social change.
I do everything from creating unique brand logos, photographing community events, designing graphic content, to even creating and producing podcasts. But I also get it to help shape some cool initiatives my clients participate in.
But this isn’t where it ends for me. I also am an artist and a poet. When I’m not working on client work I explore how words shape feelings with my poetry and spoken word. I also create original art through my brand Art by B. Nash. In 2024 I have been deep in creating colorful abstract art, that also brings brilliant color to Black women’s portraiture.
In my world, there is no shortage of ways to be expressive. I love to explore how art is magic, helps us heal, and tells intricate stories of our experiences. What makes me proud of all the types of work and art I do is the impact on those who view it.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I love this question. As a creative, I also have a good bit of business acumen, But being a multi-talented creative, I took a non-traditional path to my career.
I have worked in convenience stores, did freelance journalism for small magazines, worked as a copy setter for a large print and digital business services organization, and worked as a career services coordinator at a liberal arts college. All of these were before deciding entrepreneurship was the career path that made the most sense for me.
As a creative, making what I was doing appealing to an audience was just as important as doing my job well. It didn’t matter if I was making promo signs to push sales of food items, writing a story about a local blues musician, or coordinating all the logistics of getting college students ready for careers; what information looks and sounds like is important to how it appeals to who you are “selling” to.
Being creative is not just about making things ‘look pretty,” but understanding that words have meaning that can drive choices about colors. Colors have meanings that make people feel a certain way depending on the materials (tangible or intangible) they are attached to. For a creative, understanding how these details matter to an audience helps us share narratives and brand graphics that your target market wants to take action with.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Definitely the exploration and the challenge of making people relate to what I am creating. It is extremely satisfying to listen to someone’s vision and bring it to life in a message.
