We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hudson Harmony Band. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hudson Harmony below.
Hudson Harmony , appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Our most meaningful projects have been producing professional music videos for our YouTube channel. We literally receive comments from all over the world. We try to match the location for the video with the overall feel and message of the song. When we were ready to record “The Orange Blossom Special / Wabash Cannonball” video, we wanted to record it on an actual train. Our search began in Arizona, but we were unable to successfully partner with any of the train companies in our state. We broadened our search to other states, including Tennessee, South Carolina, Washington, and more. We literally searched for months to find the perfect setting for this song. We thought about the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in Colorado, and because we have ridden this train many times throughout the years, we thought this could be exactly what we were looking for. After many phone calls and emails, we were delighted to find that they were willing to work with us. We traveled to Durango in March of 2024 and successfully filmed this one-of-a-kind video which we released in July. We feel that we captured the heart of this classic bluegrass song in a unique and tangible way.
Hudson Harmony , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hudson Harmony Band is a performing family band that features gospel music. Each of the members can play at least 4 different instruments, and so performances are full of surprises including yodeling, which delights the audience. One of our specialties is taking older songs and hymns that people know and love and rearranging them to feel new and innovative. For example, our most popular song on our YouTube channel is “Church in the Wildwood” (we recently surpassed 1 million views on this song). In order to make this song unique, we added yodeling and we wrote an original verse to it as well. According to the comments that we receive, people love the distinctive twist we put on our songs.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the lessons that we have learned is to keep searching for an open door when you have a specific goal or idea in mind. We almost gave up on the dream of recording this song on an actual train (one of the train companies in AZ offered to let us record inside a train car that was not moving). We thought we would have to give up on our idea of recording in an operating train, but we kept coming back to our original idea and kept pursuing it.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the people that we are able to bless and influence. We do this through live concerts around the valley, and through our YouTube channel.
