We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anastasya Korol. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anastasya below.
Anastasya , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
Having done hundreds (if not over one thousand) photoshoots at this point, I know that I will leave behind a catalogue of beautiful faces, artists, experiences, and family memories. I feel so blessed to be able to immortalize moments and chapters of peoples lives. I liken it to being a historian of sorts. I document significant personal milestones in peoples journeys. I’ve now had the pleasure of documenting several people (my first clients) for about a decade. Through their first portrait session, to their engagement, to their wedding, maternity photos, and now family photos with their kids. It’s a unique privilege and life path to be able to connect with people from different walks if life, and create artistic heirlooms for them. I think it’s a way to pay respect and show gratitude for the beautiful and rich lives we live as human beings. I hope that my legacy is an expansive visual (and experiential) catalogue of the people I have met, and the connection that we shared.
Anastasya , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started Anastasya Photography in 2010. It was a passion project that turned into a career. I have been interested in art and photography since my teenage years, and began exploring it seriously in my 20’s. I’m an avid appreciator of the world, and strive to create art from life in a way that elevates and celebrates life’s beauty. I photograph portraits, brands, couples, families, and weddings. In every session I strive to pick out the essence of the subject, and photograph in a way that pulls the essence forward, revealing it to the viewer.
I started my wedding brand Of Love and Fern in 2020 as a means to separate my portrait and art photography from my wedding and family photography. Not that it necessarily warrants separation, but I wanted to eliminate confusion for my clients, and to showcase my wedding portfolio to the right audience. Under this brand I focus on wedding and family photography, creating family heirlooms.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think being personable, and making the business about serving the people. When I book a photo session, my primary goal is to connect with my client in a way that improves their life. I want the photos we create together to bring them joy, confidence, happiness, and meaning. That is always at the forefront. I didn’t choose photography to make money – I chose it because it is a vehicle for meaning.
I think ( I hope!) that my clients and followers pick up on this energy, and know that I am genuinely here to help them create something beautiful that they will treasure forever.
For fellow business owners: People feel love. People respond to care. If you want your business to grow, care about your clients more than yourself. If you put your love out there, it will come back.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is getting to connect with people and have a small window into their story. It takes trust to let someone in, and I respect the privilege. Photography has given me a free pass into so many situations that I otherwise would not have found myself in. It gives me a rich life. I am forever grateful to all of you (and those to come) who have expanded my experience here on earth.
