We were lucky to catch up with Delene Moreno recently and have shared our conversation below.
Delene , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
As a business woman, I have struggled with sexism as well as treated with respect. Starting with no guidance or minimal education, it made networking and developing my business difficult. Joining the permanent make-up & beauty profession I have trained with gifted and talented artists who have a passion and love for their work. I want to be that mentor and guidance for women who want to be successful. I want my classes/trainings to be the start of a woman’s career and life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello everyone, my name is Delene Moreno and I am the proud owner of House of Lash & Brows. I got into the beauty profession & permanent make-up industry through my love and passion for art. As a businesswoman, it was hard to network with people but I built up my business from my house and started brows in my room. My favorite part of my work is when clients first see themselves in the mirror and look at their fresh new brows. The way their eyes light up and the gasp they take is what fills me with joy and success. Highlighting and enhancing a clients beauty is what I love giving to them. My technique is very special and unique to me. I have expanded and bettered my technique by training with fourteen other artists and learning something new every time. I especially love working on clients who have scars on their brows because they believe they won’t have that part of their brow back anymore but through my craft, it is possible. Accentuating beauty is what the House of Lash & Brows is for.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Can you believe that my side hustle use to be doing brows? After high school, I worked in an attorney’s office for about 6 years as a paralegal and even got a degree from UHD (The University of Houston in Downtown). I enjoyed my job and loved the field. I am also a mother to one son, which means I was juggling three jobs at one time. I enjoyed doing brows more than working as a paralegal. In my free time, I would go to Instagram and see different artists posting their works of art, and always wanted to get to that level of mastery! After my 9-5 job, I would get clients and would do one brow a day. I always wanted to do better than the work I did the day before. That meant practicing and doing more clients than just one. I took on the challenge and worked less in my main job and did more brows. I eventually caught myself being so stressed and didn’t have time to even bond with my son on the weekend! That is when I decided to take the leap and left the law field for the beauty & permanent makeup industry. I worked super hard to master the skill I have, of course, I didn’t get here all by myself. I trained with 14 of the best artists from around the world to get to where I am today. Slowly, my work started receiving recognition from people in my town which lead them to spread the word of a brow artist in town.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Building loyalty with my clients has been fairly easy. I want the very best for anyone who sits on a chair. I always take them through the process of the service. For brows, the very first step is to map and draw out the pair of brows. I make sure to let my client know that I will NOT continue until they are very happy with the shape and look of the brow. I want them to be very honest and comfortable with me because I want to accentuate the beauty that they have. After their appointment, I make sure to let them know that if anything happens to their brows that they can call me at any time of any day! Also, I message them in 4 weeks to check up on them and ask for photos of their brows. If I see anything minor, I always try to squeeze them into my schedule to fix up anything. By showing that I truly care and want the very best for them, clients are always loyal to The House of Lash & Brows.
