We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stephanie Sicar. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stephanie below.
Hi Stephanie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
I always wanted to work for the government, specifically doing something with the court and legal system. I was told to apply at people first jobs, and I did. A year later, I was hired as a Mitigation Specialist at the Law offices of Carlos J. Martinez for criminal cases. At the time, I wanted to know what it was like to face a criminal face to face and yet treat them like a normal human being. The downside was knowing that someone life depended on the information I provided to the attorney, it determines whether they stay in jail or get freed. That was at times frustrating and causes a lot of burn out during those 2.5 years of my time working there. The recruiting process was a bit long, but worth it at the end. Glad I planted my feet there and that gave me the opportunity to be where I am now in my career as a Forensic Social Worker. Growing up, I enjoyed watching scared straight, How I Almost Got Away with It, along with some other series of shows. Anything with investigations and crimes caught my interest. I am currently still contemplating being a Medical Examiner or Crime Scene investigation as a later career path.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into my industry because growing up, I dealt with abandonment, neglect and abuse. Lots of childhood trauma if you ask me but thank God for Jesus. I wanted to know how people make the decisions that they make and their thought process behind everything, specifically how and why they respond the way that they do. Today, I ‘m able to write out those experiences and shed light on who I am. Currently, I serve my community as a Forensic Social Worker and a Mental Health Therapist. I provide individual and couples’ therapy, as well as family counseling treating individuals ages 5 and older.
As a Forensic Social Worker, I mainly assist my clients who are working towards reunification with court proceedings, identifying barriers and social support regarding their cases.
As a Mental Health Therapist, I assist my clients with meeting their personal goals towards their healing through therapy and supportive engagement. Some of the problems that I treat are anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD and more. What sets me apart from others is that I can provide therapy in both English and Creole.
I am most proud to be a part of Supportive Engagement LLC. I want my potential clients, followers and fans to know that here at Supportive Engagement, I am dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive mental health services, supporting them through their wellness journey.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I can honestly say with both of my careers as a Forensic Social Worker and Mental Health Therapist, I enjoy waking up each day and provide a sense of relief with each individual that I encounter. Waking up to go to work is not the hard part. It’s leading while bleeding through your own mess. In 2022, I dealt with tremendous lost. My niece passed away on Christmas day and 2 days later, I was divorced, after 13 years of marriage. Subsequently after burying my niece, days later I was in the hospital for a kidney infection. At that time, I was providing mental health services at a community agency, and unfortunately, I had to end my contract to better care for myself. It was then I learned the importance of self-care. I was taking care of everyone around me but myself. After coming out the hospital, I became an advocate for self-care and makes no apologies when I need to take a break for my mental health. I recently lost someone that was dear to my heart on November 3, 2024, and this also forced me into a hiatus that I didn’t think I needed. I sought therapy for myself and got the needed rest. After grieving and mourning the loss of my loved ones, I felt rejuvenated and was back doing the very thing I love, meeting people and learning about their story and family dynamics.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes, I will do it time and time again. Being an agent for change is a lifestyle not just a career or profession. It’s my livelihood, through it, I’m giving the flexibility and the gift of time to spend with my family and loved ones. There’s so much flexibility this profession brings. The ability to wear different hats, at different times. The ability to advocate for myself as well as others. The possibility of a Social Worker is endless and timeless. My job will forever be in high demand, and no competition is needed. There’s enough for everyone to partake.
