We were lucky to catch up with Tori Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tori, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents taught me two things that has impacted my life and career. 1. Work ethic. Work hard for whatever you want. Nothing will ever be handed to you. If you want something make a plan and go get it. While I was in high school my dad worked two jobs and never ever complained about it. He worked for the things he wanted and needed. As well as the things I wanted.
2. My mom has taught me its ok to start over no matter how old. One of the many reasons when I wanna do something I just do it! No matter what I was doing before. Or no matter what other people will say or think.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been and entrepreneur for the last four years. I started back in 2018 selling hair extensions. I relocated to Atlanta, Ga that same year. By the end of that year I knew I wanted to do more so I signed up for a lash extensions class and received my certificate in January 2019. After that in 2020 I decided to expand again and I added cosmetics to the list, I began selling lipgloss on my online store. In 2020 I relocated again to Houston, texas in the middle of covid! So getting my business up and running here was off the a rocky start for sure. But I never gave up just made adjustments as needed. Some time in 2021 I knew I wanted to begin creating generational wealth and start something that doesn’t require me to be tethered to a chair to make money. So I enrolled in a real estate course and April 2022 I took the state board an exam, passed on my first try and received my license.
So this year I am on a completely new journey still in entrepreneurship but basically a completely different industry all while still running my other two businesses. But still applying everything I’ve learned from them. My patience, my amazing customer service and attention to detail to provide the best experience for my clients who for some of them will be the biggest purchase they ever make! I’m really most proud of my resilience and my ability to adapt and do anything I put my mind to. If I say I’m gonna do something I mean it, and I always get it done!
I want any future or potential clients to know that when working with me you are working with someone who cares about you as a person, what your needs problems are and how we can solve them. It’s not just all about the money for me. I genuinely care about helping people and making sure they are satisfied with whatever service or product I provide them.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has been two different things. 1. Social media. I do a lot of posting sometimes its hard to post content all the time but I also make sure I connect with people that are in my field and in my area. And that has given me the opportunity for referrals from people on the internet that I have never serviced or met in person. I just show up and be myself and I think that’s what people like the most.
2. I would have to say speaking about my business and what offer everywhere I go. I will stop and talk to random people. Or I will leave my business card anywhere I go rather it be a gas station or a restaurant. If you don’t promote yourself who will? If you are serious about your business any person you come in contact with should know what you do.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
A few years ago my cousin gave me a book Titled “Brave Not Perfect” written by Reshma Saujani. Its a book for women that basically gives women the confidence and the knowledge to know it’s ok to be brave take risks, fail and try again. Its ok not to be perfect and its ok to be still trying to figure things out! It’s one of the books that has for sure helped my thinking when I’m deciding on a new venture or adding to my list of businesses. I know its ok to not succeed at first because as long as you take risks the reward will comes!
