We recently connected with Alex Inez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
They had me! hahaha! No, just kidding. My parents set a great example for me as hard workers. They have both shown me what dedication can do in your life. My mom is a very intelligent woman who has a built a comfortable life for herself. She taught me to always have a plan, to treat people right and to work hard! She’s always thinking in my best interest and giving me love and support and from her I learned to be a great friend. My dad has been pursuing his creative career since he was my age! Throughout my life I saw him recording at home, being contracted into different roles, networking and promoting himself! He’s an incredibly talented audio engineer with an amazing ear. That was great to see, hear and learn from. We listened to a lot of Jazz in the car… shoutout 94.7 The Wave! My dad has never given up on me and my brother’s dreams along with his own of being his own boss and writing the soundtrack to his life. He is still working in the business and recently worked on the crew for Jordan Peele’s new movie “Nope”! Support black art!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a singer and songwriter in my heart, but when it comes down to it.. I put on 15 hats and get the job done. I have been surrounded by music since birth and find so much love and comfort in it. I started recording music in college and released my first mixtape in 2016. I’m inspired by Mary J. Blidge, Jhene Aiko, Erykah Badu, Mariah Carey and lots of rap/hip-hop hooks. I also have a passion for film and photography and have dabbled in that in the more recent years and you will continue to see more of that from me. As far as support, you can find handmade jewelry and accessories on my merchandise page @reallzeni and my website alexinez.com and soon I will be releasing new tees with a new single coming SSOOOON! <3

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I’ll say there’s two things for me that stick out. First, the release… whether that’s releasing it to the public or even just into the mic and into the computer like letting go of the feeling is so freeing. If I’m sad, I can write and sing about how sad I am, and why, and how LOL or whatever and after I feel so much better its like journaling. Then I would say, receiving on the other end. As a creative, when you tap into some music that just really speaks to you and you can be healed by someone else’s release, it’s just a beautiful thing.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I just stay as consistent as I possibly can, when I can. Let’s face it, is as creatives we have to take our silly hat off and put our money maker hat on sometimes to keep the lights on, so it gets busy and it’s hard to stay consistent and motivated. My only advice is just don’t be so hard on yourself and try to get into a rhythm that’s good for you. Remember to take breaks and deep breaths and restructure your plans sometimes. <3 Don’t give up
