As a business owner it’s easy to feel like your work is never done – because no matter how much you do, there is always more that could theoretically be done. Many business owners we’ve spoken with also feel that they have a responsibility to be available to their team and that if they step away they are putting an undue burden on their team. So, we wanted to hear from a broad range of business owners on whether they take vacations and we’ve shared some of their responses below.

I love this question. Yes, I try to take them as often as I can. It’s so easy to get caught up in the entrepreneurial journey and the hustle to the point where you run yourself raggedy. Absolutely. Although being a business owner is incredibly hard and emotionally driven a lot of the time, there is more than one reason that I chose to be an entrepreneur and that is to be my own boss. One benefit of that it getting to chose when and where I get to vacation. Nowadays, I take off two months in the Summer to focus on enjoying time with my loved ones and seeing the world. I absolutely do take vacations! I think rest and recharge is very important when you run your own business. As entrepreneurs, we work very hard. Most times, we work around the clock and even over the weekends. It is important to recharge, since we work so hard. I try to take multiple short trips throughout the year. My ideal is to take a 3-day trip every other month. This year, I took a one-week vacation to Vancouver to see my family. Then, I traveled to Ohio for two weeks and did some work while there.
