We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jacaleb Smith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with JaCaleb below.
JaCaleb, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job?
The most important lesson I learned from a previous job was to never get too comfortable because your job is never really solidified anywhere, most corporations see you as a placeholder that can be easily replaced when convenient for them. My last job had a company wide lay off/rebranding period where supervisors and superintendents who thought their place with the company was solidified were sadly mistaken because they were laid off without warning. Seeing this as an intern left a lasting impression on me by reinforcing the thought to never get too comfortable anywhere. Which is another reason why I decided to become an entrepreneur.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I believe my authenticity sets me apart from others. Even though I am an up and coming brand, the positive feedbackI am already receiving speaks volumes. My personality shows through my artwork as well as the way I communicate with customers. I make every interaction more about connecting personally whereas most people just try to make their money and go on about their day. I want the world to understand the reason why I chose to start the “Antisocial Extrovert” collection. The reason being is because human beings are socially complicated so it’s not that simple to just be grouped as either introverted or extroverted. There are other personality types. The name “ANTISOCIAL EXTROVERT” is an ironic and contradicting ideology, which describes a lively person or a very social person, who has a reserved part that comes into play almost all the time, same time as they are being social. This is basically my brands mission statement and it describes me perfectly and I have been referring to myself as such, which is why I decided to start the brand!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me comes from the connection I fostered with old ones. They speak highly of me and my brand to their peers , which in turn brings me new clientele. This is why I focus on the connection I make with every customer and not just the monetary aspect of the transaction. Always try to leave a lasting impression.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I have always been the breadwinner, no matter what it was I wanted to put my time and effort towards. So, whatever I want to do I put my full effort towards, no matter what I have to do. To start the funding off, I worked a full time warehouse job at Amazon to get the initial funding for my business. Once I got it started, I used the revenue generated from the brand plus my own income to keep the business running and flowing smoothly.
