We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Crystal Geffrard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Crystal below.
Crystal, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
One of the thing that my parents did right was teach me that I can do anything that I put my mind to. This always stuck with me because whenever I felt stuck academically or within my career, I would pause, take a moment, and figure out what I’m doing wrong and what can I do better. Once my mind is refocused and set on success, there is nothing that I can’t do. My parents teaching me this allowed for me to realize the only barrier in my journey is me. If I tell myself that I’m going to fail, then that’s what will happen. However, if I tell myself that I will succeed, I will. This has affected my journey in so many ways because no matter what obstacle I faced, I was still able to overcome it and excel.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a small skincare business owner and an RBT (Registered Behavior Technician). When I’m not conducting ABA Therapy, I’m working on my skincare brand, SKINN By Crystal. It is an all natural and organic skincare line with handmade products meant to moisturize, hydrate, nourish and clear the skin of dark spots, pigmentation, acne and more skin related issues. All products that I offer are made with noncomedogenic ingredients that don’t clog pores making it friendly for all skin types. Focusing on noncomedogenic ingredients is something that I feel sets SKINN By Crystal apart from the others. My first out of state customer asked me if my products contained coconut oil because she is allergic and has been wanting to try a Black owned skincare brand but couldn’t due to her allergy. I didn’t include coconut oil in any of my products due to a high comedogenic score of 4. By doing this, it allowed me to have my first out of state customer and appeal to those who have coconut oil allergies. I’m very proud of my brand and the progress I’ve made since launching. Some days can be tougher than others but it’s also a learning opportunity. Everyday I’m learning something new about skincare that I can implement in my brand.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Absolutely. I love the field that I’m in. Working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder is very challenging but rewarding. It’s amazing to see the progress and how much a child has grown. Knowing that you are apart of that growth is very heartwarming for me.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Having patience and compassion is the most helpful traits to have when succeeding in my field. Some days can be harder than others but when you have both of these things, it’s easy to tackle the day.
