We were lucky to catch up with Sagittae Nidae recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sagittae thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always been drawn towards the creative sides of self-expression and when I began to dabble in artistic expression, I knew that my creativity had to be shared with the world. I was exceptionally talented in the performance arts and used to do theatre in middle school participating in many lead roles. I loved being the star, but I didn’t care for playing the role of a character rather than being myself. In high school, I dabbled in choir and sports but I couldn’t stand being a part of an ensemble without having moments to shine in the spotlight. So after high school, I tried to go to fashion school but my parents weren’t supportive of that and without their help, i couldn’t achieve that dream. So I then began modeling and was able to do so professionally very quickly. I even had Elite Models in Europe interested in signing me until I got into a car accident that made me unable to attend the meeting of the signing. After that, I tried acting and took classes and was asked to participate in filming in LA but was not able to attend due to lack of funds and parental approval. I felt so lost to see all of my creative interests not workout moments right before huge success until one day while watching RuPaul’s Drag Race, it hit me. All of my creative interested: singing, dancing, acting, fashion, modeling, performing, being in the spotlight and being a star while expressing myself creatively to the world, is all different aspects of drag. Doing drag could allow me to tap into every artistic skill I’ve acquired over the years. That’s when I decided that drag was what I was meant to do and is my true passion and purpose in life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Miami’s Flipping Stunt Queen and Moroccan Princess. My art when it comes to drag is very exciting, jaw dropping, and leaves you gagged. When you come to a show where Sagittae Nidae is headlining, you’ll expect the unexpected. I do flips after flips, jump off high platforms into splits, dance like no tomorrow, give the highest of all energies, and even give my numbers a silly campy twist. For example, working at the iconic Palace Bar on South beach, I provided entertainments such as coming out in a kids electric car dressed as a race car driver or coming out in an inflatable Toy Story alien inflatable to reveal myself as a sexy Buzz Lightyear. I even once did a number as an inflatable minion from Despicable Me doing splits and an 80’s number in roller blades doing the same stunts I usually do. Just know that the Sagittae Nidae experience is one that you’ll never forget.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was one that I was told plenty of times which is, consistency is key no matter what. I typically have a jam packed schedule of shows with drag which has been great and the consistency has allowed me to stay relevant for a long time. However, I was so obsessed with making sure I never fade into the background that I never allowed my body any time to heal after minor injuries and pushed myself to continue working consistently regardless of the handful of health concerns I constantly pushed away and pretended wasn’t there. Eventually, it got to a point where I was forced to take a hiatus and I’m so glad that I was able to take the time to heal and nurture myself. I learned that the drag scene isn’t going anywhere and taking the time to take care of yourself is a key aspect to presenting your best self on that stage. Healing is key to coming back better and stronger than ever.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of doing drag definitely has to be impressing myself with what I’m capable of. With my drag, I love to take risks and push boundaries and always succeed in dong so. Every time I do so, it surprises me of what I’m capable of and gives me a sense of confidence that anything is possible, even the impossible.
