We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Redamancy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Redamancy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the toughest things about progressing in your creative career is that there are almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
One of the problems we have faced that we did not originally anticipate has been garnering unwanted attention – Whether that be audience members at a show overstepping their boundaries, strangers on the street, drunk bar-goers, or unsettling messages sent to us online. Being a rock band requires us to curate a certain image and presence that can come across as glamorous and larger-than-life, which often results in people approaching us for the wrong reasons. While we’re grateful for the opportunities and community that we have been given over the last four years of creating and growing Redamancy as a band, things can get… Weird and creepy behind the scenes. We actually just wrote a brand-new song about it, called “Keep Dreaming,” which is meant to call out those people who refuse to take a hint.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Redamancy was founded in Denver, Colorado in 2018 by members Bella Musser (vocals) and Andreas Landeck (guitar). We have since welcomed Nirvan Jamshidi (drums) and Kendall Gibson (bass) to our rock n’ roll family as well. Our music combines elements of modern rock with classic undertones, reminiscent of bands ranging from Royal Blood and Queens of the Stone Age to Foo Fighters and Paramore. We strive to create music that is sultry and driving, laced with lyrical themes of vengeance and vulnerability. Our sophomore EP, ‘Revival,’ was released in fall of 2019. It explores the trials and victories that come with embracing a new chapter of life.
How did you build your audience on social media?
1) Consistency
2)Authenticity
3) Outreach
Our socials have grown quite a bit over the past few months, but we haven’t been doing much differently as far as curating our online presence goes. The biggest change we have made has been putting forward an authentic representation of ourselves and our interests, and seeking community amongst other musicians and like-minded creatives, both online and in-person. The majority of our current reach is organic, and has been attained through networking, building friendships with, and supporting other artists.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
